Electrical Problem (No Parking Lights, Dash Lights, Door Chime)
Problem:
Parking lights, Dash illumination, door chime dont work. All fuses are fine. Both sun visors have been disconnected. Headlamps DO work. Brake Lamps and turn signals DO work. When I arm and disarm my aftermarket alarm, the parking lights and dash lights flash as they usually do, and I can hear the parking light relay clicking, so it can't be the relay. I did a search and got nothing. Any ideas? Car is sitting with battery disconnected. Mike |

Is the factory relay clicking or the one for the alarm????
If the factory relay clicks then I would have to say without seeing the car that the input from the column to the relay is bad. Does the relay click when you turn them on in the car? Cuz if there is an aftermarket alarm then you most likley have to relays. So first I would track down the factory relay for the parking lights and check to see if it clicks when you turn them on from the column. If not I would trip the relay manually and see if the relay is good. Then I would check to see if the factory input wires is functioning. After all that You should be able to determine the problem. P.S. Did you try a new fuse sometimes the fuse goes bad and you can't tell by looking at. -Just a thought- |

The relay clicks when I arm the aftermarket alarm. When i switch the parking lights on from either the combination switch, or the parking light button, the relay does NOT click.

OK... I found some interesting stuff this morning. I found where my aftermarket alarm hooks up to control the parking light flash. They used a t-tap to a wire coming out of the back of my parking light button (next to the heated mirror button). So, I took a +12 wire and attached it to that point, AND all my parking lights and dash lights came on, and the DIMMER WORKS! This is so weird! I'm not sure how everything is wired for this. I guess I'm going to head to Kerven and borrow their electrical manual for the weekend. I wired an IGN+12 to the parking light switch so at least I'll have running lights if I need to drive at night.
I'm suspecting my combination switch may be bad, but the headlights still work fine, as does the dimmer and turn signals etc. Does anyone have ANY input? Mike Last edited by Green1995SVX; 03-19-2004 at 12:12 PM. |

Today i replaced the parking light switch cluster and i also replaced the parking lamp illumination relay. No changes. If I apply that +12 to the + wire coming out of the back of the parking switch cluster, everything works normally. I've been going over the wire diagrams in the service manual for hours and I just can't figure out why this isn't working. AHH!

I was going to say your parking light cluster (because if you remove it, all the lights will die)... but you said, it's not that so...

Was able to diagnose through testing of EVERYTHING, that the problem is INSIDE the under-hood fusebox. Going to pick up a new fuse box tomorrow morning. Will post results.

Fixed the wires and put everything back together. Everything is normal now, except for the dash illumination (it doesnt work) I think it is the Time Control Module. Maybe it got fried from those wires touching eachother. Has anybody got the 1994+ suppliment that details how to remove this? I cant figure it out, it's different than 1992's because of the airbag. I can see it, but I cant get to it.

F yeah!! oh f yeah! I'm sitting in my car right now with everything ripped apart. I just replaced the Time Control Unit with a spare I had set aside a year or so ago. It worked! For the record, time control unit's from 92 and 95 are interchangable. Part numbers 88001PA000 and 88001PA030.
I done good! Mike |
