I have been driving with my 5000K HIDs installed for almost 4 years and have never been flashed for glare.

The only exception is when I was running my 5000K HID foglights. Other drivers assumed that they were high beams because they saw 4 lights. A quick flash of my 120W high beams set them straight.

In winter snowy weather I drive exclusively with only fog lights (headlights disconnected) Less reflected glare and more usable light than using the standard headlights.

That is great to hear! What kind of HID conversion kit are you running? Did you replace the stock projector lens with one that was designed for HID or are you running the stock Subaru projector lens with an HID retrofit kit?

My biggest concern about going with HIDs is that I don't want to make a nuisance of myself to other drivers all in the name of vanity.

Used the stock lenses, just changed the bulbs

If your headlights are properly aligned, you will have no problem; they are just whiter and brighter
