EG33 development

Any one have a link or any type of documentation on the development of the EG33? I want to know why Subaru simply extended the 2.2L engine to create the six cylinder, instead of just sticking with a turbocharger and (theoretically, staying more efficient.)

This also needs to be a real website, not just word of mouth. I have a turbo/engine design project that I need to do for school so it would be used as a reference.

Wikipedia just isn't cutting it. Thanks.

Re: EG33 development

I don't think there are any web sites that will give you the info that you are looking for. The EG33 was developed independantly and not just done by adding 2 more cylinders to the 2.2L engine. At the 10th anniversary meet in 2001, one of the Japanese Engineers that developed the engine explained to some of us, all of the differences between their other engines and the EG33. It has not been used in any other car before or after and is very unique.

Earl,

Would you mind numbering the list, you know, like most lists we do here? It simply takes too long to recount, to notice when you add one

I'm sure that the issues Subaru suffered (and most manufacturers suffered) with turbos in the 80s had a fair amount to do with it. Do the research and you'll find though that Theories and reality are two totally different things. As with most turbo engines the promise of hp and efficiency far exceed the reality. Drive a similar vintage Legacy Turbo and a SVX and I know the mileage will be darn close for the same driving conditions.
