I was told L and R front are the same on the SVX no L or R just 1/2 shafts.

Yes, but they are slightly different from the Legacy.

The fronts will work in a SVX, but the SVX ones are a little beefier....

Also EJ Crank Position sensors can be used, they require a little thought as the mounting tab is different, but the connectors are the same, and they work the same (and cost about 1/10th the EG sensors)

There is also a slight difference in the shape of the joint where it goes into the hub/bearing.

It fit's but you need to keep tightening the axle nut as it wears and pulls closer to the bearing.

Don't know the correct name for it but I believe the toothed gear end on the front axle which goes into the front differential is the same.

Re: Parts compatibility (Legacy 1996-1999)

I ran an SVX alternator in my Legacy 2.2 for a while. It didn't line up perfectly but the belt didn't come off.

Re: Parts compatibility (Legacy 1996-1999)

Anyone know if the MAF sensor from another subie will fit the SVX and would it be cheaper, (Part # would be helpful)

Re: Parts compatibility (Legacy 1996-1999)

When my heater blower motor went out, I replaced it with one from a mid 90's Legacy. The motor and squirrel cage bolted right into the housing and the electrical connector was correct. No further issues for the last 4 years.

Re: Parts compatibility (Legacy 1996-1999)

I have been using a MAF from a mid 90's Legacy for the last 2 years. I researched the pin connections and had to swap two of the leads in order to match the circuitry up. ( swap positions with the white and black wires). IT DOES AFFECT THE TOP END RPMs.
I don't think the sensor in the MAF for the 4-cyl engine is built to "feel" the volume of air our 6-cyl engine is using at high RPM. But it seems to do fine for normal driving.
It cost me $10 on E-bay as opposed to $100 for the SVX version on E-bay

Re: Parts compatibility (Legacy 1996-1999)

I also made minor modifications to a Legacy cup holder (inside the armrest style) to create a fair replica of the original one my SVX didn't come with. See my locker for pics.

I use it occasionally, but find the armrest cup holder is a little inconvenient with the lid up while holding a drink. I keep bumping it with my elbow while shifting my awesome Legacy 5-speed tranny.

Re: Parts compatibility (Legacy 1996-1999)

By the way, the front brake pads for my '97 Nissan Pathfinder are the same as the ones called for on my '92 SVX. Same part, lower price.

I also used an OEM Nissan Pathfinder "air deflector" for the sun-roof. (I did have to shorten the mounting screws a little, as the originals were about 1/2" too long).
It is a perfect fit and I think it adds "a little something" to the overall looks of the vehicle profile. (check my locker for Pics). And it does help with cabin ventilation when I just crack open the sun roof a bit.
I don't think Subaru offered this as an option but should have.

Funny, but the leather steering wheel and air-bag assy also "looks" identical (except for the logo imprinted in the material) although I haven't tried to swap them.

The Leather seats are almost identical (including power adjustment controls and their connectors), as are the window control switch assy's.

I suspect there are a number of common parts these two vehicle share.
