Yeah, when I bought this here '92 it already had them there clear lights, yo.

Neat, another thing I can add to the list of stuff that I 'discovered' my car has.

1. Transmission from a '96
2. European Springs/Shocks
+3. Clear Headlights (but not the corners, which if fine)

I had an idea, I was actually gonna see if I could snag a second waterfall, tear it open, and actually turn it into an enourmous fog light. Then I can re-wire the lights so the brights, driving lights, and inset foglights can all be lit at once. I think it'd be pretty bad assed when the whole front of the car just lit up in a solid beam of light.

Then agian I wanna hang an aftermarket tranny cooler off the front bumper like a 60's GP car.

I guess I'm just crazy.

btw, the automatic seatbelts fail something feirce.

The '97 grille doesn't really impress me. I find it makes the front of the SVX look like 99.9% of the cars out there... old or new.. toyota.. honda.. ford.. nissan.. leaving really only the windows to set them apart.
The waterfall grille only has one vehicle which it can be compared to, the mercury, which doesn't even come close to smooth, contoured design the stock headlights combined with the waterfall grille create.
I think the '97 does look nice (and is more of a must if you clear the lenses since the lense of the waterfall grille will no longer match) but the '97 grille doesn't make the car look modern - it just makes it blend into the crowd better.

I really prefer the waterfall grille as well. The crystal-clear plastic all across the front of the car gives a sense of front-to-back symmetry since there is red plastic all across the rear. The 97 grille makes the headlights stand out too much.

For another comparison, here was my original pearlie at Lafayette...

and this is when I tried to "update" it with a '97 grille. Made the headlights stand out too much and the grille looked like it should have a hook in it... a big gaping catfish mouth! (at least on the pearlie). Stayed on for about a week and then I took it off and never looked back. As my former secretary said, "The waterfall grille is very friendly-looking.... it looks as if it is smiling at you"

I still have an additional brand new set of headlights and 2 new waterfall grilles (both still in boxes) to keep this look as long as I can.

the '97 grille probably looks better on an all black car, which of course, is the best SVX color.

Another interesting option (other than the waterfall, 97 Euro, or the smallcar grille) is the one from Deltaspeed. With the right paint and clear headlight and corner lenses, it could really be a unique look.

You can get it from Dayle at motorsportswarehouse. http://www.planetsvx.com

He ordered a couple a while back, along with some side skirts and other goodies.

The price was $290.00 including shipping from Japan to California.
Shipping from CA to Dayle in AZ and from AZ to NJ is additional.

Click HERE to see the photo Dayle took of the unpainted Deltaspeed grille

I say go for it!!

I like that one even less... doesn't fit the personality of the car at all

I had wanted a 97 grille but the waterfall is kinda growing on me since Its Just Eric polished it clear, so now it doesn't remind me of a Sable I think I'm gonna put the H6 badge off a legacy in the grille section and leave it at that - would that be tacky/rice?

yea cleaning the front lights and grill really makes a difference doesn't it. I think that's maybe what's bugging me the most. Makes the car look as old as it is. I'll have to look up those threads on cleaning all that plastic. Does it really make it come up like new?

They aren't crystal-clear-new-off-the-showroom-floor, but its a huge noticable improvement, especially if you have serious yellowing. Again, makes it go from late-80's Sable back to being Futuristic Concept Car

I did a search for delta speed last night and found their website in Japan, but couldn't translate everything right, I think I might try and get the delta speed grill but it's not a high priority right now. Maybe I'll get it before Reading 9.

This is before I cleaned the grill when I first got my SVX

And this is after using Megueir's Plastx plastic cleaner.

Click on the thumbnails to make them bigger, Ive got some other pictures showing the cleaning process. This stuff is deffinetly worth the $20, it comes with everything you need and even has a nice clear coat to put on your lenses when your finished. The only thing I cant stress enough is, sand them ALOT because that is what determines how nice they come out looking.

The Black svx looks sweet with the 97. It still has the windows and lines (not to mention the butt) to make it unique. I see the waterfall grille as a faddish look that never should have been incorporated into a car like the svx in the first place. Anybody see those plymouth vans out there that also have it? pretty cool right?

That being said, the pearlies look the best with the waterfall grille. I think it might be because the dark recess of the 97 is too great a contrast with the light color.

I also had an immediate aversion to simply painting the waterfall grille.

How about the front splitters? I have been debating ordering those for a few weeks now. I just ordered the 97 grille, and I have been thinking that if I will be getting the splitters, I should do it now and get a better color match and possibly a better price by painting them both at once. It seems to me that they give the car a little more of an aggressive look in the front without losing the classy look we all like.

What do you guys think?

i think color is an important part of how a car looks - for example, i really like silver bugeye WRX's, but not so much the black ones (even though black is my favorite car color). the headlights stand out too much.

my biggest regret was not getting the splitters for my SVX - they really look nice IMHO. .....and a 4.44 tranny would have been good, too.
