Directions to Reading

I know last year there were some folks that got craptastic directions from places like Mapquest, so I thought I'd post up some directions since I grew up in Morgantown.

First of all the Reading meet has never been in Reading, not sure why, but it has been in Denver and Morgantown, but never Reading...

PA Turnpike: Red Line on attached map
Get off at exit 298 (if you have an old map it may be marked as exit 22) At the toll booths, stay to the right. After going through the booths you will be on Route 176 North for about 1000 feet. You will be taking the second exit ramp for "Morgantown Rte 10 South"

Once on Rte 10 South you will go about a mile before you see the Holiday Inn on your right, you will have to go past it and enter at the Traffic light at McDonalds.

If you are off of the Turnpike for more than a minute without seeing the Holiday Inn, you are lost.

From Southern PA: Blue Line on attached map
Take Route 10 North, In Morgantown it will run with Route 23 for about a mile before turning left to continue on Route 10 North. At the first light, at a McDonalds, turn Left. You will see the Holiday Inn behind the McD's.

From Reading:Yellow line on attached map
Take Route 176 South. Use the exit for Morgantown marked as the "Last Exit before Toll" At the end of the ramp, turn Right onto Rte 10 South. Within a mile you will see the Holiday Inn on your right.

If you want some clarification on these directions, or want directions from somewhere else, either post it or send me a PM.

Is there a good way to take to avoid the turnpike and the tolls from here in Ohio?

Sure... Shoot across Rte 80 then take Rte 322 down through State College into Harrisburg, then either;
- Stay on Rte 322 into Hershey and get on Rte 422 through Lebanon, into Reading, then follow the above directions from Reading.
- In Harrisburg use Rte 83/283 to get to the Turnpike and head East for 3 exits. The toll for that stretch is about $2.00 and would probably save at least an hour as opposed to driving through Hershey, Lebanon and Reading.

Being from the Reading area originally.....I think maybe next year you should do the meet up at the Pagoda.

It's a beautiful hill and would make excellent pictures.

The road that goes up to it, forget the name, is host to an annual road climb up there.

Check it out on the web, I'm sure you can find info on it.

That's a GREAT idea! There's plenty of room up there and the hairpin turns are a lot of fun too (me and my motorcycle buddies cruise up there a few times a year).

Question for those with driving experience:
Coming up from the South, is it better to

a. go up 95 and take US 202 over to PA-100, then I-76, then I-176, then PA-10 or

b. come up I-83 to US-30 E to US-222 to I-176 to PA-10

Thanks

I would use option B if I were you.

Morgantown is closer to 40 minutes from Allentown at above average speed.

UPDATED: Both Mapquest and Google Maps show the correct location for the hotel's address. Here are new links:

Mapquest

Google Maps

My original follows...

Here's a MapQuest link that works [not any more!]. For those with a fast internet connection, take a look at the aerial image.

Even though the hotel's real address is "6170 Morgantown Rd" the map sites don't know that building number on that road. I cheated by using "6098," which gets you close enough.

The entrance to the hotel (and the McDonalds) is just south of the map marker.

On the aerial view the half-cloverleaf near the marker is an old turnpike entrance/exit. If you zoom in closer you'll see part has actually been torn up. The current ramps are a little farther east.

~800 miles from Atlanta. Don't think I'll be driving, unless somebody would like me to deliver a 92 SVX...

Wow, i know exactly where that is. I use the morgantown turnpike onramp when i head out to visit family in pittsburgh. We'd always stop at the mc donalds to eat before getting on for the long drive to avoid any stops.

Classic SVX
As this is my first SVX and my first Reading meet, where is the actual meet? I will probably only drive down for a day and then drive back home so I need to know where is the actual meet? not the hotel. Where and what time? Thanks.
