Transmission DRUM

I had my tranmission totally rebuilt about a month ago because third gear disintegrated. It was racing in third. Now it happened again and I took it back to the shop. He said it needs a new DRUM in the transmission. Can anyone tell me what this is and what it does. Is this a common occurence in faulty trannys?

DON't pay for it!!! they should have seen it if broken or like when they refurbished your tranny !!! they are screw!ng you... they shoudl be held responsible for it!!!

I don't intend to pay for it. I just want to know what it is and what is does so maybe I can figure out why they overlooked it in the first place.

there are two parts known as "drum"s in the transmission, the forward clutch drum and the reverse clutch drum.

If you look in my locker & grab part III of the tranny manual, near the end is a group of exploded drawings that show the part.

I've had two failed SVX transaxles, one for the front diff, one for the high clutch. Seems to me there's mostly high clutch problems for Subaru in general from following various threads.
