98 legacy outback, rare failure

Hi there, My 98 legacy outback is shaking from side to side only when pushing gas pedal or totally released gas pedal, not in the middle. This happens only between 90 and 110km/h. When i use lower octane gas, the shaking sensation lowers also. I had all tires balanced, clean injectors, change sparks plugs, checked vacuum, checked compression and replaced the drive shaft but problem continues. Does somebody knows about the torque converter? may it be the cause?
Thanks.

C/V axle or motor mounts. Can't really think of anything else.

Does it seem like tire vibration?

Have you ever had "Fix a Flat" in your tires?

He said the tires were balanced; wouldn't they have noticed?

Not usually.
With fix in it they can have a perfect balance, untill the goo flows to the bottom after sitting.

Re: 98 legacy outback, rare failure

it not a tire. Those are new and never fixed. I had the same problem in winter with my new winter tires. It's like one cylinder wouldn't work. That's why I checked injectors, spark plugs, vacuum and compression. But it's not the engine. CEL is off. It's like power transmission is intermittent, like it would not transmit power or torque (or transmit less ) at certain point of every revolution of the drive train, and get into resonance with the rest of the car when running between 90 and 110km/h. The rest of the time is still there but is not critical. I tried with only FWD and the problem continues... I don't know what is next.
Any ways, I checked the motor mounts and tranny mount too: normal.
Does somebody thing that it's possible that torque transmission were intermittent? may be there's a leak of pressure in the gear box in any rotative part... and the transmission oil returns to the tranny carter instead of pressing the discs... I don't know.

Is your coilpack working ok? This is a 2.5 right? Compression ok?

Re: 98 legacy outback, rare failure

Think about the frequency.... wheel rotation speed?

Sounds like an inner halfshaft joint - tripod - which has lost the needles.... or badly worn surfaces.

If it feels the same with the FWD fuse in, start at the front .

I already change the whole drive shaft, with the halfshaft joint uncluded... I put the car on four supports so tires does not touch the floor, put a camera below the car (on the floor, aiming the drive shaft) and run at 100kmph. everything is ok. No lateral shaking because no torque under that circumstances.
