What have you done to your engine that makes the factory exhaust a restriction?

Re: what is the best performance exhaust setup

If you are looking for sound, that is one thing and the choises are varied.
If you are looking for a performance gain the exhaust is not the first place to look.

Where is the first place to look? CAI? Custom intake? MAF?

The factory muffler controls the sound more than ALL of the other componants combined.

Different gears are the only bolt in modification than instantly add as much as 37% more torque without comprimize.

Beyond that, supercharging (including turoos and nitrous) can give 50% more power on a mostly stock block, and double on a built motor.

There are other options, like weight savings, but that can take away from the SVX experience.

Re: what is the best performance exhaust setup

Look on Youtube for SVX exhaust sound clips, there are plenty. Unfortunately, the majority of aftermarket exhausts on SVXii are custom built (like mine - click the link in my signiture), so duplicating one is not such an easy task.

I've never heard my car from the outside (I'm the only one that drives it with almost no exceptions), but I'm told it sounds like a big, pissed off sports bike.

Buy a ferrari or an alfa. You would have a much easier time attempting make you engine noise resemble a Porsche. Each style engine has its own unique "sounds". You can change the sound of your engine quite a bit depending on the design of your exhaust, but it will still sound like a subaru.

Re: what is the best performance exhaust setup

Her is how mine sounds on my LGT with a third cat delete. I know it is off topic, but like they say the cat back (other exhaust parts) changes the sound completely.
