Re: automatic wrx transmission

I asked about that a while back. Tom swapped a newer 4-speed auto into someone's car a while back. Apparently it was a massive PITA.

Yeah, it is Melis's car that has the phase 2 trans in it. Yeah, it was days of wiring.

Physically it mounted up pretty easily. A slight modification to the bracket that holds the shift linkage to the trans, other than that it bolted right on.

Wasn't there some sort of shattered transmission at the end of that?

Yeah, on the first one... It was a 4.44. There is no Torque control when you use a Phase 2 and while revving with the brake on, the front diff completely grenaded...

The second one we got is a 4.11. It's been running strong for 18 months now.

Re: automatic wrx transmission

I have in my posession a JDM 4.11 wrx VTD tranny (phase 1.) I was waiting on my JDM SVX TCU (thanks needforspeed and longassname!!) and now that I have all the parts, I will undertake this project once I have a bit of time and our new shop is completed.

I'll be running it with an ECUtune built valvebody and TCU programming, along with a 4.11 LSD rear prepared by young tom. Cooling will be handled by an external cooler with thermostat and external oil filter.

I eagerly await the results!!

I'd really like to have a turbocharged automatic vtd'ized SVX. That is my goal. Maximum coolness!

Re: automatic wrx transmission

Yeah, I'm curious for the results myself. The car ran a 15.4 before, and I think I could nail a 14 with the swap.
