Is This A Fuel Pump Issue?

My 92 chokes sometimes and jerks back and forth, and sometimes dies from it when giving it more gas.
Mechanic quoted that it was a 90% fuel pump issue, before i get it replaced any other thoughts on what the issue might be?

Thanks

Change your fuel filter first. - Ed

Make sure that the fuel pressure has been properly checked before accepting this as a definitive diagnosis. Otherwise a guessing game could prove costly.

The pressure should normally register as between 34 - 38 psi or 235 - 265 kpa.

Re: Is This A Fuel Pump Issue?

Ok, thanks a lot for the info.

In general what else can cause such an issue?

Did you change the filter and check the pressure yet?

Re: Is This A Fuel Pump Issue?

When my MAF failed on my Legacy, it had all sorts of strange behavior, including the behavior the OP mentioned. I would check that out too. Find someone nearby who has one that works, swap and see if the behavior goes away.

Re: Is This A Fuel Pump Issue?

More likely to be a sensor issue than a fuel pump issue.

Fuel pump issues usualy manifest as issues at higher rpm if they are not putting out the flow/pressure.

Re: Is This A Fuel Pump Issue?

Car is gonna be ready on Monday, so i will definitely let you know what the problem was.

The response I am getting from the mechanic is that it is fine now, and that it was a fuel pump/filter issue, will let you know once i drive it for sure.

Thanks for the help.
