engine reseal question
ok so i replaced the valve cover gaskets on my car a week or two ago along with a plethora of other gaskets and things and now it appear that the passenger side is leaking very fast, like there is a3-4 inch puddle of oil under my car when ever i park. i think i may have over torqued them, is there any easy way to fix this or do i have to pull the valve covers again...arg

the valve cover bolts have a shank on them, they won't over compress the valve cover gaskets; over torqueing is just bad for the bolts/heads. Like Tom said, if you didn't change the gaskets on the bolts they are probably leaking for just that reason--the shank on the bolts won't let you tighten down on the already compressed gaskets, they have to be new.

If it's leaking that bad, one of the gasket may have become unseated during install.....might want to pull that side back off and check it. As for the bolt gromments, a cheap alternative is to install a 0-ring under each old one to seal them... See ya this weekend at the Dragon!

Jeff, also, they're the same round gasket that is on EJ engines, and I think the same as EA82's also??

probobly because your gaskets are blown up like a balloon from all the oil they absorbed... Keep a close eye on it

Valve cover grommets
If you buy the valve cover grommets, you need 20, 10 per side. List is $3.25 a piece, I got them for $2.50 each, thats $50 + Tax, and well worth it. My covers are now mint, not a drop.

Re: Valve cover grommets
Where did you find the valve cover grommets? A search for them at subaruparts.com turned up empty. Thanks.
