Well, according to cousin Jim, Great-great-great grandfather "Edward", was born here in 1760, the son of 'Edward' that rode here on a boat before that. Edward II fathered Nathan, who fathered Marshal Sr that fathered Chester, ( my Dad) Other than that, I don't know anything. Back 248 plus years, so far......

Jim knows where the graves are. I will be there in may with a camera and recorder! He even has Nathan's 'Will' from 1908.

BUT, I'm still digging up bones.

WELL!!
I got the first 'colorized' copy today! He had a glossy print and a MUG made up! I have presented a copy to the eldest brother for review. There has been very little 'Creative license' taken... The 'footprint' has not changed. After I talk to the brothers, we may authorize a little more color to be added. I LIKE what has been done so far. We have another month before the 'Meeting' in May.
I will be sending a 'New and Improooved' copy to cousin Jim for his review.

I like the 'Artist's' line of thinking. He is reluctant to change anything without the brother's input.

I don't know if my family has a crest. From what I've heard from a couple people my last name is the equivilent of the phrase "first house on the left." (First or last, not sure.) That probably means that even if there was a crest for my surname, it might belong to someone I'm not even remotely related to.

Is it too late to design my own? Has anyone thought about modern day family crests?

I have been searching the net for a copy of the one I have. It's not there. I have found a lot with the same name though.

You can buy one and 'adopt' it if you want to. There are a lot of people selling them. You could design one yourself. It just won't have the 'history' till it gets a hundred years or so on it.

Since Aunt Eva was the LAST surviving member of the Wilson family that appeared on the 1910 census, I had both colorized and the original copy of the crest available for the viewing pleasure of the cousins. I even gave one to Aunt Eva to take with her.
The brothers and cousins all agreed that the colorized version was better. They also agreed that we should not add anything else.
I think that I passed out about 30 copies! Of the recipients, the only ones that had seen it before were the ones that I had sent it to.

I now know a lot more about my 'roots' and will be going to a lot of places to view ancestorial burial grounds. I will need to take the Husquevarna and a tank of gas to see some of them, but then, I cut firewood year round!
I guess I'll have to drive the GMC there.
