Sorry Guys for the rather abrupt reply brought about due to frustration as a result of what is involved. My post referred directly to the suggestion that the circuitry could be altered to conform with the JDM wiring. I appear to have transposed Jim with John.

John is quite correct in his statement. (Any coincidental logic and similarity between what is seen in the wiring diagrams and what is actually found under the dash is purely unintentional)

I have only the US wiring diagram to work by and the photos show that this is not correct. Not only is the colour coding wrong but the fog light switch is not as per diagram. The combined switch assembly appears to have a common ground for the two pilot lamps, whereas the diagram requires these to be separate. No doubt the designer found this out after publication and altered the actual wiring accordingly, as this upset control of the pilot light as had been originally envisaged.

Furthermore the key to the issues as I discussed directly with john, is the difficulty in reaching connection points. Adding a relay although a complication, is probably the best solution. I can not take the matter any further as I have no evidence as to the exact circuitry.

At this point I expect another sarcastic interjection from know-all Keith, as per the ignition switch thread e.g. “Everyone on the network knows how to test for DC voltage except you” I leave that judgement to others.

no sarcasm from me, Trevor!

If I have helped you learn that when you don't have a "real" answer, it is the right thing to do is just admit it, I take my hat off to you! (actually, I don't wear a hat... that is just a figure of speech)
Suggesting a relay instead of calling it a band-aid, or something worse, to help with a desired modification is also commendable! Two in one day? You have made my day!
Again,
Take care,
Keith

Significant Technical Input Registered SVX Classic SVX
It was a VERY foggy day here in Maryland and I did a lot of driving in the afternoon and into the evening.

I discovered there is a lot more reflected glare from the projector HIDs than the stock halogens. This doesn't limit my visibility during the day, but at night it is a little more difficult to see beyond the fog... just a little.

Time for a test. I went home and put strips of duct tape over my projector HIDs and just used the HID fog lights. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!
The beam pattern was low and very wide and allowed me to see under the fog further than I ever have. More determined than ever to get this mod done.

On a side note, from the view of oncoming traffic, the foglight-only HIDs are brighter at a distance than PIAA low beams. My son took his pearlie (with the PIAA 9005s I used to use prior to the changeover) and I took the polo to a long deserted dead-end street.

We parked them side-by-side, he with his low beams on and me with just the fogs. We walked down the road and kept looking back to see how far we could go before the lights disappeared. At the point where I could not see his headlights at all in the fog, the Polo's fog lights were still very visible. The car seemed farther away than it actually was because of the fog lights being closer together.

I still need this mod figured out.

If someone will provide me with a valid diagram of the actual connections, as they exist, together with a specification describing their exact requirements, both in respect of acceptable physical difficulties, as well as functional requirements I guarantee to provide the best possible arrangement, in line with those specifications.

Meantime I reject stupid sarcastic comment from witless idiots.

If someone provided me with the exact requirements to do anyghing, I can certainly copy-paste it on this site as well!!

I could even do it without tactless name calling.

I have never copied and pasted information on this site. All my write ups and all information presented has been personally written, based on acquired knowledge and experience. The accusation constitutes a nasty attempt to discredit me and as such, is completely unfounded.

I trust that members will read this thread in full, whereby they can understand the stupidity of the interjections.

Sincerely, Trevor.

You two fellows are old enough to have more sense.

Put a sock in it guys, this irritability is lowering the tone of the place and we are getting a lot of complaints.

Please.

Joe

I have read the thread Trevor. It is out of respect for both of you that I am not pointing a finger at anybody here, and I suggest you both let the antagonism drop.

It is greatly appreciated that you fellows wade in and try to help people so often and so well. The regular, time consuming and knowledgeable contributions are so much appreciated here that frankly, this interpersonal bickering and name-calling is surprising and is behaviour that should really be beneath guys of your calibre.

So without entering any blame game or who started it malarky, please, both of you gentlemen, do the right thing, let it drop.

Thanks

Joe

Do not patronise me Joe. The evidence is conclusive.

I will not, as you have instructed, accept nasty, sarcastic, uncalled-for remarks, cowering spineless and downtrodden. Whenever, I am denigrated on the basis of incorrect facts, I reserve the right to defend myself by correcting the facts involved, and will continue to do so.

Sincerely, Trevor.

Clarification of the Posting Rules

I'm sorry you see it that way Trevor. My remarks were genuine, but if you want to take them as patronising I'm obviously wasting my sweetness on desert air.

Just to make it clear where the Moderators stand, and with no ambiguity, the following are the first four Posting Rules, which all members are advised to read and be familiar with:

* First and foremost, please treat all members with the same amount of respect you wish to receive. If you do not wish to receive respect, you probably don’t belong here.

* If a Moderator or Administrator tells you something, please obey it. Whether it is cleaning up your language, decreasing the size of a file, or any other reasonable request within the context of these guidelines, you must comply or face the possibility of expulsion.

* Coarse, vulgar, or malicious language is not allowed, and will be censored along with a warning. If it continues, a time out, or suspension will apply.

* Flames and baiting members are not acceptable. Posts like these will be deleted and offenders will be warned.

A number of posts in this thread and in other recent threads have broken these rules, all four of them. Nowhere in any of the Posting Rules does it say that these rules can be suspended or broken by members either in defense or to correct facts.

As the rules are being flaunted and ignored by members, we Moderators are making some minor changes that will clarify for everyone the need to maintain a better level of decorum and respect for other members. These strengthening and clarification changes are being finalised now and will be drafted and posted in the coming week.

One important aspect of the new changes I can reveal in advance; posting guidelines are monitored and administrated by Moderators. We are not mediators. Nor advocates. Nor counselors. Nor adjudicators. On the basis that "it takes two to tango", where a thread has gone out of line with the Posting Rules and is locked because two or more members have gone head-to-head and posted breaking these rules, be it either in defense or offense, both [or more!] parties will equally share the sanctions handed out for breaking the Posting Rules.

It should be obvious from this that any "right to defend" or "right to reply" is acceptable to the Moderators, only as long as the posts made under these "rights" are within the Posting Rules.

The most recent "right to defend myself" spate of angry posting led to the permanent banning of a member. We would much prefer to avoid such outcomes, but we will ensure that the few rules we have are respected and adhered to, whatever the cost.

To avoid dragging out this unseemly argument any further, this thread is now closed.

Joe
