The CRC cleaner is not that good. I used it and it actually hindered the performance of the MAF. It dosent clean enough of the mineral content from the unit. Example.... Take a greasy finger and touch the inside plastic of the MAF, let it sit for a few minutes, and then spray it with the cleaner. Whats left? A white fingerprint. This is minerals left behind that the mixture of chemicals cant clean. So if there was any oil on the hot plate, what is left behind?
Never heard of using vinegar, but it makes sens.

So do you think this will work?

Maf douching!

Oh no! I better stop. I'm probably in trouble.

Been a fan of vinegar for years as a natural substitute.
I'm definitely gonna try this one!

I think the cleaning aspect is no doubt being pushed by CRC, who make something for everything possible or perceived.

Please read my earlier posts in the thread and be aware exactly how the thing operates. In order to be a problem there must be an obstruction of air flow, and or, a coating which will prevent cooling of the element via air flow. Not all that critical in terms of required thickness/mass of any deposit.

So I guess the 'eco-friendly' vinegar substitute can't be all that bad then

Maybe it's just a psychological feeling you are doing something good for your car ... in a natural sort of way?

btw... here is a dyno chart I found showing some results of the MAF sensor cleaning from a Mazda I believe.

some people use an electrical parts cleaner to do the job also ...
