The filter itself does not collapse, but you are right on in what is happening. THe silicone couplers and elbow suck in and restrict the motor. ITs not hard to have that happen, and its better that that happens then having hard pipes.
With a restrictive filter and all hard piping i would just have the turbo working extremely hot all the time, due to the fac that the turbo will have to work much harder to reac the same pressure level.

I don't understand. Why not have the best of both worlds. I guess I need to take another look at your setup.

best of both worlds? The problem is the filter does not allow free flow so the elbows get sucked in between the turbo and filter, which will choke the engine and cause vacuum, even if it doesnt suck completly closed. Think about it, if there were hard pipes then then turbo would have a rediculously lower density ratio(heat, turbo is working harder ) to reach the gated pressure ratio. This situation would be hard to diagnose.

I was thinking of perhaps hard piping the elbow. That way it won't collapse.

Track Tests

What's up? Are you back on the road? Have you had a chance to go to the track? Inquiring minds would like to know.

Good Luck
