While I don't have my text books with me (waiting at the airport...), there are a couple of things that haven't been addressed here:

1. the increase in hp required as speed increases due to the effect of drag
2. the increase in engine cooling capacity needed to support the additional hp
3. the need for salt flats to have enough "runway" to get to speed

This last point is something which people aren't taking into consideration with regards to Sonar's verified top speed.

If you're driving along a lonely stretch of highway at 65-75mph and go WOT, you'll probably reach 140+mph in just under a mile and probably let up due to: fear; oncoming traffic; having to take your exit, etc.

Sonar went all out for 3 1/8 miles on a completely empty stretch of highway that the police kept free from other cars. We also don't know the temp, humidity and altitude during his runs, but they must have been relatively ideal.

Either way, I've never accelerated my car non-stop for over 3 miles without letting up. There's just no autobahn in the US or tracks with straight stretches that long...

Don't worry Todd. You'll never be like me!

You don't have enough coolness to even be in the same state as me
