Quick question about TB cleaning

I bought osme of the spray cleaner. On the neon, I could just remove the intake tube, and spray the cleaner in while it was running. ON the svx, there's that huge plsatic box thing with like 10 hoses going into it. Do I spray the TB, then reassembly everything, and THEN run the car? Or can I safely run the car with all those hoses (that go to the intake box) disconnected????

It won't run normally with the intake off. Someone said here you could get it to run if you held the throttle open. Beav said just to spray it in with the car off and wipe out as much gunk as you can.

That box that you mention will will so much gunk you would not believe. Take it out and clean it while you are at it. I took out my TB and clean it outside and put it back together but it took me about 2 weeks to get all the settings right again.

Rob, When I cleaned mine I just removed the box from the throttle body. With the engine off I cleaned up the butterfly openings (spray, wipe, repeat as necessary) and also the black air box (not really dirty at all). I then held the butterfly's open while spraying down the throat to loosen any grime hiding way back in there. While I had things apart I also cleaned the MAF wire (very carefully) and the TPS. The TPS is no biggy as long as you mark it's position before removing it. Be sure to mark it by scratching it as using a sharpie or pencil can result in losing your mark while cleaning and you really do not want to do that. I put everything back together and fired her up. She ran rough for a few seconds then cleared up just fine.

Been running superbly ever since. Definitely noticed a difference after the cleaning.

Rob,
Try parking your car on an incline when you clean the TB (car parked pointed up the slope). This way the excess spray will drain back out of the TB when you open the butterflys again. Like CigarJohnny, I also cleaned my MAF wire while I was at it (just sprayed the TB cleaner at the sensor while the "snorkle" was off) -- got a "check engine" the next morning, but it went away after about 20 minutes of driving.
