Re: e &m rigoli eg33 performance engine rebuild

The rods themselves are not half bad... But its the bolts that are your weak point. I wouldn't trust stock rods with ARP bolts in a 600hp motor either though. its just a wasted investment of time and money. Its not like you are going to change pistons without taking the block halves apart anyway unless you really like "doing it wrong". While you are in there change the rods to ones more suitable to an engine's build.

Re: e &m rigoli eg33 performance engine rebuild

Once again, my only point is that $13,000 is far too much to spend on a built motor alone.

yes, but to say you can do a sub $13k full car is just incorrect if you are doing right.

Eclipse build from Spain anyone?

My running total is exceeding that already, from a pretty much stock car.

Kinda the point... If you go so far with a project, you have a list of "might as well's"

Not sure?
There is a vid on you tube showing motor running with out the turbo piping being hooked up. Mite be able to tell from that?

Did they have over heating problems with there EG block?
or would cooling be improved with getting it sleaved?
I think I read they had it to about 3.7L

Re: e &m rigoli eg33 performance engine rebuild

Ha this thread just showed up on a search I was just doing for something else.
6 years ago. Wow. Well, I finally did it.

Also, in the intervening years I've learned that some of what I was saying before was obviously incorrect. Some was on point. This has been a major, major undertaking.

Care to share the do's and don'ts of building an eg33? I'm always interested in learning what works for different people and what doesn't. Also that image doesn't show, I'm guessing it's your Impreza? Love to see that too...

Yes, I am also curious how this came out.

BTW, I'm looking at swapping an EG33 into my kit car.

Re: e &m rigoli eg33 performance engine rebuild

CobraJet, have you considered the 2001-2004 EZ30? In my experience they're cheaper and/or easier to find. On top of that they're lighter and more compact than an EG33, and can easily be made to run on the stock ecu in a 'stand-alone' fashion. They make damn near the same power and sound just as good, AND you can spare an SVX having it's heart ripped out!

Do as you will, I just hate seeing EG's in anything other than an SVX. At least you're not putting it in an Impreza!

Also, awesome looking car! Please keep us updated!

It's a Laser 917, 1970's era kit car imulation of a Porsche 917. I've totally re-engineered the suspension and gone all big disk brakes. Now it's ready to accept some serious power!
My web page for the car:

I was looking at the EG33 simply because it has a higher displacement. You may have a better idea though if these are kinda rare to find. In regards to the ECU, I'll be going with a non-stock ECU. Looking at Megasquirt.
