Subaru Impreza 3.3 L Coupe
I bought an Svx with the purpose of swapping the EG33 into a Impreza coupe.
Before you get too opinionated, the Svx was running but had a salvage title. From New Hamshire. Getting it titled in Ct would have been a feat. Found the coupe a few weeks later. Swapped the engine after a couple weeks in the driveway then stored it for about a year while I moved. Last edited by vagabond; 06-24-2014 at 07:03 PM. |

Re: Subaru Impreza 3.3 L Coupe
After looking for awhile I found a commercial garage and after checking it out my best friend, and now business partner decided to lease it and start a small private club shop.
We decided to use our Imprezas as test beds and let the business plan grow organically. With the space and some decent tools I pulled the H6 swap out of storage and got started on the wiring, exhaust and cooling system. Last edited by vagabond; 06-24-2014 at 07:04 PM. |

Re: Subaru Impreza 3.3 L Coupe
For the exhaust I used my pipe bender, some mandrel bends, the stock manifolds and a 2 in to 1 High Flow Cat mated to an STi catback.

Re: Subaru Impreza 3.3 L Coupe
Space is an issue with the 3.3 in the impreza. I had to mount the radiator further forward than normal.
Most people cut the radiator support, however I dont like the hack job look, and I plan on having multiple engine swaps into this chassis over the next few years. I sourced a Griffin Radiator after much measuring and went about getting it mounted securely with ample room for fans, while retaining everything aside from the hood latch. I plan to eventually use an STi (RS) bumper cover for increased airflow. The L Bumper Beam however is far too large. The standard solution is to use the JDM bumper beam however I feel its a bit too thin. I chose to modify the L bumper Beam to fit the STi/RS covers, provide a bit more protection than the JDM wire hanger and allow more room for the radiator. |

Re: Subaru Impreza 3.3 L Coupe
The griffin does not have a radiator cap provision and it sits under the upper radiator support.
I decided to add an inline filler as the most practical and reversible solution. After some (a lot) careful notching of the stock L grill and bumper cover I was able to bolt everything up. Incognito |

Re: Subaru Impreza 3.3 L Coupe
The wiring was a fun chore.
I had help I didnt like the original Tan interior so I color matched it. Recycled some parts from my old Z31 300ZX build. Headliner Recovered and color matched the Rear Panels Originally had 02 WRX Seats but like the old school RS ones more Last edited by vagabond; 06-24-2014 at 06:39 PM. |

Thats pretty much the last 12 months. Between other shop Projects I had to move the H6 swap to the back burner.

Re: Subaru Impreza 3.3 L Coupe
That brings us to today.
Car is wired up, Battery charged, and 93 Octane in the Tank Starter Cranks strong and starts right up, idles for about five seconds then stalls. I checked the vacuum lines and all seem healthy. I've Pulled the MAF cover off, checked the contacts and all seemed good. I resealed it. I also unplugged the MAF and it still behaves the same, though it will die immediately if I apply throttle. I disconnected the coolant temp sensor and the car failed to start. I cleaned the cam and crank sensors. I checked all the grounds. Fuel pump runs strong and is getting to all cylinders Definitely have spark, for as long as it runs.... I do not have the tach wired, as I did not order the digital converter yet. Everything else is wired, grounded or powered. Initially the CEL did work and would run codes in the past. I tried to run codes again recently and I just get a continues stream of blinks at 1/4 second intervals. Any suggestions? |

Re: Subaru Impreza 3.3 L Coupe
Run straight power AND ground to the fuel pump and try it again....I had to do that on FrankenWedge when I did the EG33 Swap

Re: Subaru Impreza 3.3 L Coupe
Thanks.
If I can figure out this stalling issue, turbo is next on the list.... |
