Tranny tool
I'm in the process of rebuilding a 5MT and I found I need a special tool to remove the 5th driven gear from the shaft since it's pressed on there and there's almost no clearance to get a tool between it and the flanged bearing. I contacted subaru.spx.com and they wanted like $260 for the tool. So, last night I talked to a CNC machinist friend of mine and we took some measurments of the gear etc. He says he can and will make me a tool that will do the job.
My reason for posting is that he said he could make me one tool for $100 or two for $140 and I wanted to see if anyone would like to spend $70 and get themselves one of these custom tools. I don't know all the specs for the dimensions but I do know he'll be making it out of stainless steel (I think he said type 314) When he's done it will look kind of like the tool at the following link: http://subaru.spx.com/detail.asp?partid=498077000 but will have bolt holes drilled to hold the two halves together under pressure. So, if you have any questions or would like to get one of these for $70 plus whatever it costs me to ship it to you either post here or send me a PM. Another thought was maybe the group might want to get some of these types tools to loan or rent for a small fee to its members who might need them only once and don't want to buy them for a single job. Just another thought. ~edit~ If people think this should be in another forum, just lemme know (or move it, lol). ~edit~ Jay
