Re: Possible all Aluminum Radiator group buy

For those two got the fans/shroud. I received the following information from Andy@AMR:

Universal Fan Wiring SVX is 4 Wire

On vehicles with existing electrical fans, we highly suggest cutting off the plug on the OEM fans that you are removing from the vehicle. This will prevent from damaging the vehicle's electrical body harness. The first step is to determine how many wires are going to each fan.

2 wires - One wire is positive, the other wire is negative. The positive wire will need to be spliced into the blue wire. The negative will attach to the black wire.

3 wires - Usually, two wires are positive, with the third wire being the negative. Twist the two positive wires together and connect them to the blue wire. The negative wire will then go to the black wire.

4 wires - Two are positive wire and two negative wires. Twist the two positive wires together and connect them to the blue wire. Twist the two negative wires together and connect them to the black wire.

Re: Possible all Aluminum Radiator group buy

Got my AMR with fans and shroud the other day, took two hours to install it, including adding coolant. That took some time, I poured it in slowly, trying not get any air pockets. Once it was up to the neck, I squeezed the lower hose to burp any air up to the top, then topped it off and the reservoir tank.

The a uality is top notch, fit perfectly. The back of the fans are close to a pulley on the passenger side, and some kind of bracket on the driver side, but hey, if it clears by a mm, it clears by a mile!

The only real issue I had was with the wiring of the new fans. The stock fans have four wires, and on my fans, they were black - yellow - blue - green.

The new slim fans only have only two wires, black and blue. I found out that two of the stock wires were negative, and two were positive, and they need to be spliced together then connected to the corresponding wires on the new fans.

I used a multimeter to figure out which of the four SVX wires were negative, and they were the black and yellow wires.

So the black and yellow (-) wires are spliced to the black wire (-) on the new fans, and the blue and green wires (+) are spliced to the blue wire (+) on the new fans.

Road tested it today, got it good and hot, and the temp gauge never went above the half-oway mark. Checked for leaks on the core, and the radiator necks and trans cooler fittings, good and dry. I figure with the increased radiator capacity (1.5" core versus 1" stock), and the higher CFM dual fans, this thing should run cool even in a Texas summer!

With how easy it was to install this quality all-aluminum radiator, I think it was definitely worth the money.

Re: Possible all Aluminum Radiator group buy

I ended up asking for a refund in late January. He was very nice and personable, and actually left me two messages before I had a chance to call him back. Anyhow I figured that I would add that I received my refund today. which should get me that much closer to the 5 speed conversion I have been dreaming about.

Re: Possible all Aluminum Radiator group buy

Got my shipping notification. I really need to start spending time on the SVX... I've got all these shiny parts piling up and haven't had a chance to install any of them!

Re: Possible all Aluminum Radiator group buy

Svxfiles will be installing one of the AMR's for a customer maybe this weekend. He will report on his observations and opinions.

UDDATE: 03/13
Tom said he installed it and seemed to go right in. Said it seemed like a substantial unit, well made and close in quality to what he saw on the PWR

Re: Possible all Aluminum Radiator group buy

Has anyone looked inside the upper radiator hose connector to view the welds? The upper on mine is no where near as clean/smooth as the bottom. I can take pictures to help explain.
