O/T - adjustable ride height
Some years ago I owned a Mitsu Sigma. It was a gadgetized version of the Galant. One thing I always thought neat was the way it would lower the car about 1 to 1.5 inches at speeds over about 50 mph.
Sold the car while still under warranty (those days had 4 kids at home - the dreaded minivan syndrome), so never really looked to see how it operated. Anybody know about this system and if it could be adapted (there's bound to be a few in wrecking yards)? |

air suspension
Its just like the subaru xt-6's air ride suspension. good idea, when it worked. I'm sure with some $$ and some fabrication, you can adapt it to a SVX. Time + money = options

Also the cressidas did this and perhaps a few other vehicles.

air suspension
I saw my old xt6 on the subaru lot yesterday. found out its having the air suspension and pump replaced. At $350 to $400. a pop for each strut and at least that much for the pump thats a good chunk of change...not to mention the drier and air tank thats part of the system. But the entire time I owned, 12 years, that was the biggest reason I kept it . An air suspension is fun to watch and feel as it continuosly tries to level the car.

The Dodge Stealths I had previously had a similar system where the car would adjust height at highway speeds as well as some other tricks, but the system was oil based.
You could always get those airbag systems that people into the "lowrider" scene get, it would probably be the most feasible way. |

I thought only the highest end Stealths and 3000GTs had that adjusting angle spoiler, that changed angle at higher speeds, and I don't recall ever hearing about an adjustable height suspension, unless you're talking about the electronically controlled suspension. And even that ECS only adjusted firmness, or so I thought.
Anyways, as for airbags.. it's hit and miss. My friend spends so much on his air suspension, because it breaks so often. I think he's spent around 5k on that suspension now, it's ridiculous. |
