92-93 vs 94-97

why is it that the 92-93 svx's had alot of transmissions replaced on them, why wouldnt you just put a 94-97 tranny on where those dont go out for ALOT longer?? im trying to ask this question best i can.

Not necessary. Just change out the tranny filter, and your 92-93 tranny should hold out just fine. Also, external tranny cooler helps as well. The cost of doing both of these modifications is about 1/10th the cost of replacing the transmission all together, not to mention much easier as well.

I agree. The reason that the 92-93 transmissions went bad is that there was not an external filter on them and the screen in the radiator would clog and not allow for adequate cooling. If you put the filter and a cooler in the system and change the internal filter, you will be miles ahead of the game.

So my 95 has an external filter on it? If so, where is it and what does it look like?

the 94+ models had transmission and radiator upgrades so the recall filter was not necessary

Paul, if you DID have a factory Subaru trans filter it would be on the frame rail beside the tow bracket, below the battery.

For the amount of money it takes to put on an external filter, I would still do it. The PermaCool also has the ability to put a temp sensor in it.
