FWD Mode
My car doesn't go in to FWD diagnostics mode, after placing a fuse in to the proper slot. Any ideas ?
Thanx |

Do you mean the dash light doesn't come on or is there still power going to the rear wheels?

My wife's Legacy had transfer clutch problems, so I put the FWD fuse in. That was fine, while I was waiting for the parts to fix it, but eventually the fuse stopped working. The light didn't come on and duty solenoid C was definitely trying to do its job.
The parts arrived, I fixed the problem and I didn't need to use the fuse any more. I never did find out why it wasn't working any more. Why are you trying to use yours?

Don't drive it! Since I'm a betting man I have $1000 on it being your duty sol c so long as you're getting codes. Driving it+binding=heat=dead tranny. Get it to a shop asap or replace it yourself. You can do the dynositc on it at home to be sure but this is exactly what mine did when it went out. Was like $650 or so to fix at the dealer too so it isn't cheap.

Is it a front diff noisy or binding causes it to be noisy (whines), or binding casued the front diff distraction in the first place. Thanx for the input |

Hi Paul, You should double check that the gear ratio you put in the front diff is the same ratio as what was in it. Quite a few Subie diffs will fit in the case on a SVX, but it will not be the right ratio. I don't think it will show up as a code either. Take care, BOBB

Putting the car in FWD mode would eliminate a rear diff bind, but not a front. Dave |

Not if it has a sol. c issue! Do you have a flashing power light at start up? If so your TCU is sending you codes. Do a search (I think of Earthworm's SVX Info library) of the self diagnostic for the tranny light. That should narrow things down for ya a bit.

Maybe I wasn't clear. What I meant was that putting the car in FWD won't eliminate any front diff problems, but may eliminate rear diff problems.

The fron diff was replaced as a set, from another SVX, so gear ratio should be the same. The power light flashes 16 times when the car is started.
