Tranny workshop manual, part numbers

Is there anyone selling or having sold a '92 car who would sell me a Workshop Manual, either complete, or specifically the volume for Engine and Gearbox.?? I will pay your price, and shipping.

Also, is there anywhere we can see an archive of parts numbers? Eddycat answered this in the negative before, and I got the impression the part number manuals or cd's or microfiches had trade prices attached, so lists of part numbers would not be made available to the general public.

This seems odd business practice to me, stupid even. What do they do when prices change? Junk the whole book and issue another one?

I have a parts book with exploded drawings and attached parts numbers for my Matra Murena, and there is not a single price in it. The dealers get another book with the parts numbers listed with the prices, which does get upgraded as prices change.

The club should store this sort of information centrally for the benefit of the members, it will become more important as the cars get older.

Joe

part number

Part numbers are a good idea. As far as I know, the part numbers and exploded diagrams on the Subaru system is on one system and prices are matched on another -- that's how my dealer do it.

And I know you can get a part number and shop manual books (cd) from the SUBARU if you really want it. My dad buys cars for the United Nations (in bulk) and Fiat, Reynault, Volvo, Toyota and Mitsubishi gave the UN CDs on how to fix any part of their vehicles and CDs on the part number. And he created another DB of the most requested part numbers for easy ordering.

If Fiat, Reynault, Volvo.. etc have repair manuals and part catalogue on CD, I KNOW Subaru/FHI has their parts and repair manual on CD that someone can get a hold of.

Part number database

You are outlining it exactly as I see it Lwin. Does anybody have or know how to get a copy of the CD/ factory drawings and part numbers??

Joe, I think I may have said what you think I said, but I may have been mistaken too. Remember, I was a tech, not a parts guy. I do know that they got new price books every 3 months or so. But it seems to me that they also got new parts books frequently too. (We found this out when we hadn't been shipped an updated copy and had trouble getting the right part over and over). And yes, they just toss 'em, you outta see the tears well up in a techs eyes when scrappin' parts day rolls around! The manufacturer credits you so many dollars in parts if you destroy obsolete parts, parts that can't even be returned. Parts that *I* wanted to keep...parts that would be damn useful in the future...parts that nobody else had anymore. Sometimes you have to thank your lucky star for crappy parts managers though! In the mid '90's I needed a shift lever for a 1980 4WD wagon, and I thought there was *no* way I'd find one. This idiot kept *2* of them in stock, and after we blew 15 years of dust off the things I was just tickled.

I've found that most parts people are fairly competent, if you know what you want and can describe it in detail. However my Irish friend, if you call the good ol' US of A and tell them you need parts for yer box, well, you're going to have a bit of trouble.

The parts catalogue that I received form nubsjr, not only contained parts #'s, exploded drawings, and parts prices, it also contained the time to be charged to a particular removal and installation. Unfortunately, the section on the tranny was not included in this book. Another interesting thing: when the body shop called the local dealership to order parts, they still had to look it up on microfiche. Apparently they've never transferred the SVX parts to CD.

For 92 parts #'s, I've found the quickest reference is the "subaruparts.com" site with the diagrams and parts numbers.

I'm glad Lwin also can't access this[sorry Lwin] as it may be a trick or a software glitch, cos I just have not been able to see diagrams and part numbers on this site.

In fact, I got the impression you were expected to have parts numbers ready to ask them for, which implied to me it was a "trade only" site.

Can anybody outline the navigation sequence required to get to this section of the site, in words of one syllable or less, and with no skipped click-throughs? We linear thinkers are not always catered for by site designers.

Hi Eddy

You could have been right also. It stands to reason they would update the book[I mean the MF's or whatever with the exploded drawings] when newer models had different parts updated and changed. We all know too well the number of changes done to the autobox to improve the problems.

You are so right about my problem in getting parts from here in Ireland, one of the reasons I would like a full workshop manual and list of part numbers. I have both for my Matra Murena, a car of French origin, so I can get 95-98% of parts I may need from UK or Paris, even though that car is '81, 10 years older than the Subaru that is so difficult to get information on.

With my brother in the trade, I agree with you about parts managers. If you know exactly what you want, somebody somewhere will do a little research and come up trumps for you. I always tip those guys when they do the little extra to see you fixed up.

Joe

Joe, Lwin, try this link

http://www.subaruparts.com/accessories.php

then click on SVX. Be sure to bookmark it. I don't know how to get into this from the "front door" of the subaruparts site, so, I've book marked it for future reference. Hope this does the trick.
