Found a workable cupholder solution

I have been investigating possible cupholder solutions, and have come up with one that works in the center console, is readily available, and also happens to be cheap . Nissan Maximas, I believe 1998-2002, have a cupholder in their center console with a flip over lid, like this one:

I paid $10 for mine, and if I could have found one in a pickapart yard, would have been likely $3 to $5. The lid attaches with four phillips screws, two for the cover and two for the springs. With the flip cover removed, you get this:

Just like this, it sits in the center console well. There is a bit of a curve to it that allows the flip cover to move over it, and trimming each end about 1/4" should make this cupholder sit completely flat and allow the center console door to shut. A better solution than those square universal ones on eBay and much more readily available than an OEM SVX cupholder.

Re: Found a workable cupholder solution

Forgot to mention, an Infiniti G20 cupholder from around 1999-2000 (maybe other years) looks like it would work without modification, but I can't find one for a reasonable price to test it.

My Pearl White has a cup holder in the center console that works... a SVX one!
I personally like the "wedge one" better that is available at Walmart. All 3 have those. The console is really in the way for me.

If generic "Walmart black" doesn't appeal to you, the wedgie cupholder is also available in taupe (I have one - a really a great match for our beige interiors) and gray (which is a much better match for our gray interiors.)

Both are available at Midway Auto Supply

TAUPE and GRAY

Re: Found a workable cupholder solution

Just an update- car's still with the mechanic but I drove over to test the cupholder fitment:

Fits very nicely after trimming the edge off, and the center console cover closes over it properly.
