Anyone driving a lot of Hwy miles in ther SVX?

I drive about 3,000 miles a month for work most of the driving is 2-3 hour highway drives (one way), then 2-3 back. I sometimes think about the possibility of making the SVX the commuter car. Anyone driving that much in their SVX?

I was doing 1500miles/2wks with mine. (No exhaust, no AC) and it was NOT fun.

I wouldn't drive one in that condition.

Re: Anyone driving a lot of Hwy miles in ther SVX?

What is your DD now? The SVX Gets about 25 MPG ( my 5 speed gets 27 ) in mixed driving expect 18 to 19 and city 12to 14.. Wife used it to commute , it is as dependable as a 12 or 14 year old American car. What do you have for miles on the car? How dependable do you feel it is? How well maintained is your car?

Re: Anyone driving a lot of Hwy miles in ther SVX?

My claret has been my daily driver since I bought it in 2005. It runs at higher RPM since the 4.44 went in. But I don't notice it much. My gas mileage is about 24-26 strictly highway and about 19-21 mixed. Goes to 18 mpg in winter when I let her warm up in the mornings before work.

The warm up mpg is a pretty big difference. How long do you let it run?

Re: Anyone driving a lot of Hwy miles in ther SVX?

i usually average +/- 20 mpg's with very gentle around town driving, on a long highway drivie with lots of curves and hills i got 25mpg. I didnt think i would say it but i really miss having a manual.

I commute to work 6 days and 500 miles per week. So far, so good! Knock on wood (knocking on my head)!
I average 24 mpg in mixed driving.

Re: Anyone driving a lot of Hwy miles in ther SVX?

Mine are daily drivers and have been 100% reliable (meaning one way or another, they've always gotten me there and back). I put 17,000 miles+ on the teal the first year I owned it, commute daily, and make regular trips of about 300 mostly freeway miles, but these days log only about 5000 miles per year on each. MPG in the high teens around town, high twenties highway, alternating 87 and 93 octane fuel at about the quarter-tank mark. Not pampered nor flogged. Completely stock drivetrains excepting an auxiliary transmission cooler on the teal. PM and repair expenses perfectly reasonable for a car half their age, with no real budget-busters. They're a joy to drive. But both need cosmetic TLC (can't bring myself to pull the trigger on the cost), and they are getting old.

Re: Anyone driving a lot of Hwy miles in ther SVX?

I'm thinking I'd likely pick up a second SVX and use one for work when the time comes to replace the DD. I would be interested to see if it would hold up with that much use.

About 5 minutes or so. The 18 mpg is mixed driving btw with warming up.

Re: Anyone driving a lot of Hwy miles in ther SVX?

I used to drive 4k each month to work. Since my job transfer, I drive half that. I had less problems with the car when I drove it more and better gas milage.
