Jumping Speedometer
Just had motor replaced. Drove approximately 20 miles and speedometer started to jump around, and transmission is not shifting properly. Replaced speed sensor with no change. Replaced tcu with no change.
In park speedometer jumps up and down from 80 mph to 20 mph to 0 mph. Transmission shop says tranny is good and was rebuilt 30000 miles ago. They feel its an electrical issue. Help please... |

Re: Jumping Speedometer
If the speedometer is jumping around while the car is in park, it is not the transmission and most likely not the sensor, as neither part is moving while the speedo is jumping. Sounds like there is water in a connector or some other short happening- it seems like power/signal is being injected into the circuit.

Re: Jumping Speedometer
I'd start by unplugging all the connectors from the tranny to the body harness (at least the 3 wire speedo one and the large control connector) and blow them out with electrical contact cleaner and then canned air, and then check the contacts- they might be dirty instead of wet or bent/mangled by the folks putting the engine in.
