service manual instructions for ignition lock removal
I broke the key off in the ignition lock and might need to remove the lock cylinder to get it out. I have seen the write-ups on this site on how to remove the lock, but as I have the service manuals, I thought I would see how the factory advises how to remove it. The problem is, I can not find anywhere in the multiple volumes any information on the ignition lock or its removal. Does anyone know where the information is located?
Thanks. Bill |

Re: service manual instructions for ignition lock removal
Wow that is pretty interesting I didn't see anything on the steering column or the steering system itself in the manual.

Re: service manual instructions for ignition lock removal
You have to remove the plastic shroud around the ignition, then you have to remove the to safty bolts holding the ignition in which no socket or screwdriver will take it out(luckily when I did mine the bolts were loose and I replaced them with some allen head bolts), then I would take the ignition to a locksmith and have them remove and make a new key.

Re: service manual instructions for ignition lock removal
Well, I got lucky in that a locksmith was able to fish out the key without removing the lock. Thanks for your comments. I can still not find instructions for lock removal in the manual, and I can only imagine that the details of the lock removal were omitted for security reasons.

Re: service manual instructions for ignition lock removal
I had a locksmith look at mine and gave me a quote to replace the lock tumbler. They know how to get them out!
