HELP! Issue with my rod bearings!

I dropped of my crank at the machine shop yesterday to get my oil clearnaces check along with my eagle rods and my ACL bearings.

The shop just called me and told me the bearings I gave them are too small and will not go around the crank. I'll double check with them but I the part number I have on my notes is 4b8320hx for the correct size rod bearings. Is this correct? I need to know whats up as soon as possible! Any help would be appreciated.

Re: HELP! Issue with my rod bearings!

I'm just going to guess here, but our rod journals are 52mm and not 48mm... right?

Re: HELP! Issue with my rod bearings!

Well how about this then, can someone at least tell me if my mains are correct?

Do I want the 5M8309H, or thrust in #5 position?

Re: HELP! Issue with my rod bearings!

I have confirmed that rod bearing I got were wrong, though I didn't send my mains or my block back to the shop so I don't know, I was just assuming if one was wrong they probably both were seeing as I got both part numbers from the same post on here. I guess I can take it out and check, just didn't want to open the package if I didn't have to.

I ordered them from No Limit but my last box I got came straight from ACLs U.S. distrubutor. I tried to call them after work to see about a swap but I missed them by a few minutes. I'll try tomorrow and hope this works.

In the mean time I guess this puts off my bottom end rebuild for at least another two weeks...

Now, you will need to order 2 sets. If anyone is interested, i will give you the distributors info

I got the part numbers from this post. Is it possible that some EG33s are 48 and others are 52? I don't see you mentioning they didn't fit anywhere in your post.

If they didn't fit I don't mean to sound like an a-hole or anything like that especially with all you've done for the community, but I think it would be helpful if you edited that post so in the future we don't have more people like me with weeks of lost time and money out of pocket in restocking fees (IF they'll take mine back) because of misinformation.

EDIT: No returns after 14 days... I'm SOL here.

All EG33 are the bigger bearing, same as 99+ 2.5L, STI, WRX, etc.

They both are? I ordered that part number for the mains and it at least looks like theyre correct. Its the part number for the #5 thrust.

Re: HELP! Issue with my rod bearings!

mains have an oversized thrust bearing. the diameters are right but the thrust bearings will not work, the should is too big. If those are #5 bearings then i guess they are #3's which you will need

Re: HELP! Issue with my rod bearings!

Just fyi the aluminum mains have zero history of failure and are good for several hundred thousand miles. I'd re-use my old mains before I downgraded to a tri-metal bearing.

Re: HELP! Issue with my rod bearings!

Not to say I'll ever see it, but hypothetically would you say they would still be sufficent at 400-500 crank horsepower?

I've already ordered the replacment rod bearings, but if it turn out my mains are incorrect I'm not throwing another 100 bucks in the garbage can so I may just keep the stock ones.

If they're still good after being hot tanked.

Yes and you can increase your oil clearances by having them polish your crank with a used belt.

Re: HELP! Issue with my rod bearings!

polishing a crank does not get more oil clearance... at least it should not be done. The more you polish it the more likely it is to get out of round. Polishing should only be done to remove any high or low spots due to junk in the oil scarring the crank. If you want more oil clearance order the proper bearings with the extra oil clearance in mind. Tri-metal bearings have been tried and true for decades... I am all about trying new things but I have already risked multi thousand dollar engines on your word and would not do it again if I had the chance
