Tachometer goes to 9? Why?

I have always wondered since I have owned this car. It's not like the engine would ever turn that fast. Why??

Oh is that the one thing they ever did to market this car? I still want to see the factory footage they talk about in where the suckers moon....

But I digress. How fast will it turn before it floats valves anyway? Anyone know?

It's clearly shown in the 30 second tv spot. You can also clearly see that the engines are 4 cylinder in the footage.

Why? For the same reason the speedometer reads to 160.

Re: Tachometer goes to 9? Why?

But you can get pretty close to 160. I don't go mroe than 500 over red line personally. Still, my truck speedometer is 120mph, yet it shuts down at 97mph. My tach goes to 5k, and I'll never get near that. Everything is given a bit of a buffer I think in regards to that. Why have hte lower 25% of the temp guage, you'll never operate there.

The car has been proven to be able to use that entire speedo without any mods. As a matter of fact, if the speedo went to 170, it would be more appropriate, as the autobahn svx hit 167 Reason #7865423452 that I love the car.

I would like to know more about what Mike is talking about though...4 cyl? wha?

Sure, except the mod of disabling the governor, and brakes that would actually stop it at that speed.

The SVX has no governor, this has been proven by downloading the ECU's programming and going through the code.

Actually no, I believe Tom said there is a governor, but it's at 400 MPH or something.
