How can I PROVE my SVX has ABS?

Well long story short my insurance went up (not because of tickets or anything like that...just b/c). Not a lot but enough to upset me. So I have been on a mission to lower my yearly premimum. I was looking over what I get discounts for (airbags, alarms, and ABS) and I noticed that the SVX doesn't get a discount for having ABS. I told them it did have it and I tried to explain the "active safety package" but I think I might have just yelled into a phone book and got more response. They said that if I want the discount I need to prove that it has it. A pic of the ABS pump will be sent to them but I need more evidence of the car having 4 channel ABS. Anyone have any ideas?

I do realize that the discounts I get will be so pathetic that the effort isn't really worth the work but they can't give me a good reason for jacking my rates so I am going to nickel and dime them to death.

BTW, the factory alarm yielded a $5 a year reduction

I think it's something in the car insurance database that our cars aren't classified as having ABS. I don't get the discount on my insurance either, but to be honest I don't think the discount is noticeable...what maybe 5 dollars off of your premium? Unless I'm wrong on that.
But I'm sure pictures would help...engine bay, even peel back the carpet and snap a picture of the module under the passenger seat.
They can obviously look at your VIN number.

Is there a way you can display the ABS indicator upon startup when the dash is lit? Maybe pull the fuse or find a way to temporarily light up the dash.

If they are being too difficult I would shop other companies.

The fact that your vin number has an H in it is proof that it has ABS. That means that it has AWD, and all AWD SVXS have abs.

Or you could show them the den of snakes box in front of the airbox that is the ABS control module. Ask them what else would that be?

Find a page in the owner's manual for the car discussing / referencing the ABS, photocopy it, and send it to them?

my agent is 140 miles from here. not worth the trip.

I was thinking about taking a pic of the stuff under the hood but then I was also going to get an inspection mechanic (not me) to sign a statement that the car does have ABS. I really didn't want to have a 3rd party involved in this matter though.

What is really funny is that they know that other SVXes have ABS but on the policy mine says 95 Suba SVX L so they even know it is an L model and they know that they are different. I guess i should prove that the car has AWD too since that might yield some "safety money".

Yes I realize I am not going to gain much from this but right now I see it as a battle of wits...they can't give me a good reason to up my rates (that have been slowly getting cheaper as the years go on) but I can prove they are going to have to lower them. Am I being petty? Yes, yes I am!

I get a discount for "anti-lock brakes", but I am in a similar position as yourself. I checked over my coverage and vehicle 2 gets a discount for having an "anti-theft device", yet the SVX does not? I just discovered this last week.

I was slightly displeased. I spent some time overhauling some wiring and making sure everything works (everything does not) and when I'm done I'm going in to Geico and correcting this grievous error.

I enquired about insurance for my SVX and Vortex 6 ( XT6 ) today.
They told me they will not insure them. Even if i was 40 and never had a speeding ticket they still wont touch it.
Ive had all my cars insurance thru them over the years

Tell them of your situation.
They will be happy to have their inspection expert confirm that you have ABS!
send the paper to your insurance j!@#$%!

thats a funny thing, i had the same thing happen when i went to insure my legacy spec B. they told me i would need a written document from a auto shop (or car dealer). i havent got one yet but i will be soon. try going to your favorite shop or dealer. they should have no problem with it. maybe write one yourself and just have a mechanic sign it/

Mike, this statement is not universally true.

All early SVX cars came in AWD. In the parent market in Japan early base model cars [Version E] came without ABS or cruise. My first SVX, Plum, was like this, no ABS, but it was AWD with the VTD gearbox.

I mention this because what you say is probably true for the US market, and a US insurance problem is what you are discussing, but this is the World Network and your statement is not true across all markets and might confuse.

Just being a pedant, is all.

Sounds like time to change providers, even if they can provide justification for denying insurance for an SVX. You can bet they would insure any Z car, BMW, Volvo, or what have you around. Ask them for justification, when you have been a loyal customer for so long.
