Remote entry?
Hi all, newbie.
92 teal green lsl 137000km (82000ish miles) 5 speed Just a few quick questions to start with. 1. My door/ignition key does not fit the trunk, is that normal? 2. Remote entry, i received just a key, how would i know if the car is equipped with remote entry? 3. Small cosmetics such as seat levers, is there a good source? Many thanks Glad to join the elite :-) Clive Last edited by canbritsvx; 05-12-2009 at 11:29 AM. |

Re: Remote entry?
Hey if your car has a ' security ' button just to the left of the steering column, then it has a factory alarm system - if you like, I bought a fob for the 92-95 svx that I can't use as I never checked for this - if you want it, pm me and i'll send it to ya.
my door/ignition key also does not work in the trunk, perhaps the key that you and i have are valet keys? I have to open my trunk using a lever on the floor |

Re: Remote entry?
Did Canadian SVXs get the keyless entry/security system?
Even if you have the Security button on the dash, it's still possible that the module was removed or has died (which is all too common). Does your key work in the glovebox? If it's a Valet, that should not work either. Exterior locks (trunk or door) can fail due to dirt/corrosion too). Is your key the SVX OEM key? If so it should have either X or Y below the key number. X is driver's, Y is valet.

Re: Remote entry?
That would be correct then. Most Canadian SVXi did not come with the security system.

Re: Remote entry?
When I first got my car, I thought I had a valet key because I couldn't open the trunk either. A little white lithium later I figured out I had a regular key because now my trunk lock could be opened with the key. I find that the SVX's locks are quick to get a little resistant if not used regularly. The locks on my doors are slowly becoming a little harder to open because I don't use them regularly.

Re: Remote entry?
My key has never worked in my trunk either. I'll have to do some fidgeting and see if it just needs cleaned out.

Re: Remote entry?
The locks in the doors easily get siezed from never being used. Also the keys do start to wear away and so they will work fine in the ignition as the tumblers in there will start to wear or adjust over time and usage. The trunk and doors get used far less and so the tumblers are still very close to new and so the worn key will not work so great.
For instance, my key I received with the car I need to fidget around to get the trunk to open but the key I had cut by key number works perfectly fine every time. Also the lock in my driver's door is seized pretty bad and so the new key does work but takes some effort. The old key I am too afraid to break off and so have never really tried. Both unlock the passenger door just fine though... |

Re: Remote entry?
If your key has a Y stamped into the metal part, it's a valet key. If it has an X, it's a regular key.

Re: Remote entry?
Mine didn't, I had an aftermarket alarm/keyless entry/remote starter/stereo installed immediately (the factory CD didn't work and the 15 year old speakers were not acceptable by modern standards).
Good to know, I always wondered why one key worked and the other didn't. I made 2 copies off the Y key and got all pissed off at the keymaker because they didn't work in the trunk or glovebox. he didn't know about the X and Y either. |

Re: Remote entry?
Well I'll be damned... That explains a lot. I'll have to check my spare and see if its stamped with an X.
