Any Tips For O2 Sensor Replacement?
I will be swapping out the O2 sensors in my SVX tomorrow and was wondering if there was anything special I might need to know before diving head first into this project? It seems like it should all be fairly straightforward to me, but I was curious if there might be any tricks...

Get an 02 sensor socket it makes the job much easier.
Soak in PB blaster for a long time before attempting to remove. If they are really stubborn try turning them tight slightly to break off some crud and then loosen.

Also heating them up with a torch if available would help a lot.
I got mine out with no real problems with vice grips. Not the best idea but it worked.

Don't worry about destroying the old ones. I was having trouble removing mine and then realized they're junk anyways, stop pussy footing around and get ruthless. I had them off in no time.
I used a 22mm closed end wrench with a notch cut in it to slip the wires through to reinstall the new ones. Last edited by Blacky; 12-30-2008 at 03:35 PM.

what Matt said + make sure to get some antiseize to use when installing the new sensor.
-Bill p.s. you'll want to make sure to use a long handle ratchet with the O2 socket so you get plenty of leverage

I soaked mine in wd40 overnight and they came out easy with an ordinary open ended spanner. When reinstalling, I found it easiest to connect it up first, then twist up the cable the wrong way - so that it untwists as you screw the sensor in.

forget the wd40 etc...
Simply unplug the wires at the quick disconnect and slide a long box end wrench over the wires and onto the 02 sensor and unscrew the thing! Then install the new one, torque it correctly and then just push the 2 wire connectors together. There you go! Keith

Use a long pair of needlenose hemostats to reconnect the plugs up by the engine.
Be sure ti get the anti-seize compound on the threads and not on the actual sensor/tip. ,
