Hose wasen't a problem but, Everyone is askin 355$! for the pump its killin me, anyone know were i can get it cheaper, maybe an acdelco or a1 pump, or a private seller willing?.

Plus the other problem im havin is 1 dealer is tellin me thier are 3 valve cover gaskets on each side, plus i need new bolts and he's chargin me 13$ each 4 the gaskets plus 3$ each for the bolts theirs like 4 sets of them or somethin he says gettin 2 is riskin containin the leak....total thier with shippin was 125, thier from a subaru dealership, and claim theyve worked on it.
Meanwhile the other dealer is tellin me he knows that 2 valve cover gaskets will be enough to stop the leak, and 2 sets of bolts will be enough, makin me save, total their with shippin was 80 what should i do, and who should i trust here? anyone worked on these issues or know exactly whats best here? need this done asap. Re: Leaks And Prices Causin Havoc, Need Advice.

There are 3 rocker cover gaskets on each side and 20 washers that seal the mounting bolts.

You will need to replace all of the gaskets to stop the leak, but you can reuse the original bolts-- no need for new ones.

See page 3 of THIS DOCUMENT for the replacement diagram with part numbers.

The only thing not shown are the rubber-lined washers for the bolts (#3 on the diagram). The part number for those is 13271AA051 and they are about $2.50 each ($50.00 for all of them)

I just did this job less than 2 weeks ago.

As for the P/S pump, what are the symptoms? Usually it is the O-ring that goes bad between the fluid reservoir and the pump itself. It allows air to enter the system and causes erratic steering and lots of noise! It is a $1.00 fix and takes about 20 minutes. Try this first

Look in the How-to Documents HERE and HERE to familiarize yourself with the procedure (which is fairly easy)

Re: Leaks And Prices Causin Havoc, Need Advice.

Thanks, i dont have enough for the pump right now anyway, and im already paying my mechanic to change the valve cover gaskets and the p/s hose. So ill print these out and hand it to him,I l tell him to do that procedure when he changes the hose, hopefully i might not need a new one, appreciate the help.

I cant find a manuel on the how to do documents on The valve cover gaskets, Any help? The mechanic is good but im so cautious with the car,.... gettin that how to do on the gaskets, would be a big plus!.

And 1 last thing is.....how do u lock the doors on the factory subaru, don thave any remotes or prestige, when i bought he told me somethin about liftin the handle, and lockin the door any help?

They have remote locking. Sometimes you can pick up the key fob on ebay. Somewhere here there are instructions on programming the fob.

To lock the door, you lock it from the lock switch on the drivers door, and you have to hold up on the outside handle while you close the door.

..or you can lock it with the key after you shut it....

Re: Leaks And Prices Causin Havoc, Need Advice.

Didin't get the parts yet should def have them by monday. But i have this weird issue now, takin a real good look i cant see exactly where the leak is comming from, im usin A BOTTLE OF POWER STEERING FLUID A DAY!, now that i took a look and dosent look like the power steering hose that's leaking so bad. The leak is comming from the right side, or if standing infront of the cars hood its on the left, opposite of the battery side. The valve cover gasket thier is leaking hard too but im guessin thats the oil. Were can all that power steering flued be leaking out from?

I hope you are not using power steering fluid. It manual calls for using automatic transmission fluid (ATF) for the power steering system. I would drain what you have in there and try to flush out the rest.

From your description, I would suspect a bad high-pressure power steering hose. These can be bought new from Subaru or have your old ones rebuilt by a hydraulic shop.

Re: Leaks And Prices Causin Havoc, Need Advice.

The high pressure hose is on the right side. If you look on the right rear side of the engine you can see it. It goes down beside the transmission and connects to the steering rack. I just replaced mine. It was spewing fluid on to the exhaust at a rate of about a quart a day.

Re: Leaks And Prices Causin Havoc, Need Advice.

well i put the fluid in the power steering pump, u can use power steering fluid. I dont know maybe ure right maybe just transmission fluid but regardless its gushing it would of gushed the tran fluid out also. My leak, if u stand infront of the front of the car it will be on the left, where the valve cover gaskets are but a little behind. The gaskets are leaking too but its leaking slightly. But the fluid from the p/s pump is gushing cant figure where its commin from, its all the way in the back over under the engine by the gasket where could it be comming from?. The hp hose and lp hose arent on the same side are they? i mean its prob one of them i mean what else can it be, after about 2-3 hrs of driving the wheel becomes real hard to manuver, I ordered a new o-ring to try and fix the noise on the pump and will flush it. And a new p/s return hose the small one i guess that goes into the pump, the one on the top left of the pump. And i ordered valve cover gaskets. Don't tell me i need a hydraulic hose now too? or is it somewhere else?

If you want a new pump, go to www.rockauto.com, they have everything you need for less than others for name brand stuff. The AC Delco reman PS pump is 171.79, with the send in for rebuild priced at 117.79. I have ordered their brakes and other stuff and the shipping is fast and I had no problems. Good luck

Re: Leaks And Prices Causin Havoc, Need Advice.

The spot you describe is where the hp hose is. You can take it off and get it rebuilt at a shop that deals in hydraulics(backhoes, loaders etc.) You should be able to see it leaking by shining a light down there and getting someone to turn the steering wheel back and forth.

Re: Leaks And Prices Causin Havoc, Need Advice.

There are lots of spots that could be leaking, but Blacky is right, the high pressure hose is most likely. Other possibilities are a cracked hard line on the rack, REALLY blown seals in the rack...

Re: Leaks And Prices Causin Havoc, Need Advice.

Appreciate the help, Socal i talked with rock auto, and the 117 is out of stock, and they have the acdelco one wich takes 12 days to ship cause they have to pre-order, sources say acdelco may not be a good fit, even though its replica. And im going to take hucks advice and guess its the o-ring, the noise cools off alot ones i put some tranny fluid but it leaks it all out in 1 day!. Its drivin me nuts, im figurin if i fix the lp and hp hoses, get a new oring and flush the pump the nightmares will end. So far the valve cover gaskets and lp hose with the oring and shipping came out to 125. Im guessin the hp hose will go for around 100. hopefully 225 does it im doin it thru the mechanic, instead of the dealership, im just tired of goin in and out the shop i wanna get the parts and just get it fixed. When i first took it to the shop the saw the leak in the hose, the (lp one), and from the valve cover gaskets, the one from the gaskets is not that bad its very small, but i wanna get it done before it gets bigger.

Blacky, im really confused at this point cause i have confirmed that the lp hose has a small leak, but its def not gushing, im starting to think its the hp hose. I did flash a light,..... its so far back, i can't see it directly comming out of the hose, the leak is right behind the end of the valve cover gasket. Just to be sure im might just order a brand new hp hose as well, cause if the hose is completly recked their would be no use in repairing it. Who knows if the leak will be fixed forsure.

Crazy pilot, how can i confirm if it is the rack, and what other spots maybe leakin, cause its 100% the tranny flued, i mean a bottle a day its goin nuts.

Thanks again feller's wallet is empty got like 15 on the account plus i need to put down for the hose and the mechanic, so as soo as i get this over with i will let u know. For now im just tryn not to drive it too much till i get it fixed, anymore help will be great, thanks again.

Re: Leaks And Prices Causin Havoc, Need Advice.

Haven't got the parts yet, hopefully Friday, but im drivin the car with this massive leak thats draining a quarter of a bottle of tranny flued a day. Is it ok for me to drive like that? I'm not usin it a lot, but i need it. Hasent done anything bad for the past 2 weeks besides constantly refilling the pump. What do u think?
