Power Steering pump is gone...
Wondering the cheapest place to pick one up for my SVX? Or if anyone is parting out their SVX on here that'd spare it? So far I found a couple for $99 which isn't bad at all, but seeing if I can save even a few more bucks anywhere.. thanks.
BTW This is my first post/thread of I'm sure a ton more. I love my SVXs =)

Greetings.
If you can get a reman power steering pump for $99 (are you sure about that?), that's the way to go. No sense paying half that for something that might fail tomorrow. dcb

are you sure its the pump? the seals on my rack are now so blown that it feels like i don't have power steering at points...

My steering feels good, but god does she squeal... On cold starts, warm starts... what is the deal. I just changed the fluid a month or so back, and I also put on new belts.... Got rid of the AC squeal, but now my steering does...
Sorry for the hijack, just wondering if mine could be going because of the mad squeals?

The pumps are easy to rebuild and you can get any of the parts you need for it from subaru. If you buy the parts from www.subaruparts.com and rebuild it , it is cheaper than a reman and will be better quality. Cheap reman equals junk.

Squeal?? Actually I have never heard a power steering pump squeal. They usually sort of growl. A squeal is generally belt related. Check the tension of your belt, check the idler pulley and put some belt dressing on the belt and see if you still have the sound.

How tight does the belt need to be exactly? It REALLY squealed at me today.......

The only squeel I have heard is the bearings going out on the AC clutch. You might check that. You say the steering is good, but it squeels. It is hard to tell sometimes where the noise is coming from.

Does it stop after a while? Do you know where the AC Condensor is? It is the belt that comes up the higest on the engine. It is probably the one making the noise.

Yeah, it squeals sometimes on start, then the first time I crank the wheel over. After that its fine, just does it the frist and sometimes second time I turn. So if it is that one, how do I fix it?

That sounds like steering if it does it when you turn the steering wheel. I would try tightening the belt a little and using belt dressing and see if that helps.
If it is the AC clutch, it would squeel before you even touched the steering wheel.

Well, really it depends. The last couple days, its done it when I first start the car for a few seconds. Then it does it again as soon as I touch the wheel. When I get home I will try to tighten the belt, and I will put some dressing on them as well. Hopefully that will help. It is quite annoying when it does it... makes an awesome car sound like crap
