So, my gas cap is stuck on...

I stopped at a gas station two weeks ago on my way home from school to fill up. My tank was getting pretty close to empty too. I popped the fuel door, but I couldn't for the life of me get the cap off. It turns to the right and clicks as normal, but won't budge when I try to turn it to the left.

So I took my legacy to school and checked it last weekend after it sat for a week, and still couldn't get the bugger off.

Has anyone ever run into this before? and what should I try? I tried a big channel lock pliers to twist it off, but it didnt work.

I have never heard of that before. A member just lost his (I don't know how because they are secured to the car), but have never heard of one being stuck.

I have had people super glue things together on me, maybe you were a victim of this too.

Actually it happened to me once at a gas station. After several minutes and rising panic a push down and turn broke it loose. Must not have put it on straight previously.

This is a long shot, but I believe a vacuum in a nearly empty tank can create enough suction to make the cap difficult to remove. If you're sure it's not cross-threaded, maybe you can remove the lines to the evaporative canister to let air into the fuel system, and see if that helps.

vacuum

^^^That's what I was thinking. It's hard to remember, but I think my cap got stuck ones. I just gave it a "Hulk turn puny cap" action and it came loose with a loud wooshing sound.

Not on any of my SVXen. Just a regular cap that you unscrew and place on top the spoiler while you fill up.

PaulMeister, the only way I can think of to remove a stuck cap is with excessive force. Something like a big stilson.

i dont know exactly of a way to do this, but if you could somehow heat up the plastic, it might expand a bit and then turn loose with some force
but ill leave the way in which you decide to do that to yourself...dont use fire...

btw, my gas cap is secured to my car; like every other svx ive ever seen

I was thinking that it was vacuum too, but I figured that the pressure would bleed after sitting for a week. I may try popping my lines though.
