93 legacy awd tranny

went up to pull n save today and saw a 93 subaru legacy wagon with a 4eat awd. talked to the guys at counter and they said their computer says the differential ratio is a 3.90. this is not for specific car just what com says bout the model in general. im talking to the palm bay subaru dealer and he's doing a vin check for me to get more information on the tranny if its stock.

all of wiring is same as on my 95 (front/rear speed sensor, and two harnesses on top), and rest of tranny is identical to one i have in. i know the gear ratios are not the same, but was wondering if anyone who has done the auto tranny swaps to 4.xx would know if this tranny could be used, and if so what all is needed for a full swap, im thinking the rear differential would need modified, and possible the front bell housing may have different alignment. if anyone could help me with more info i would appreciate it.

Yep it'll work, you need the rear diff to swap ring and pinions with your rear diff, and maybe the Legacy flexplate....(depending on which Torque converter you use.)

was wondering if you can change from the old speedo cables with gear that locks in place to the newer electric ones. if so how hard is it to do. will i need to adjust the whole mechanism or can i just change part #4 on the front differential diagram from how to section

also will there be speedo issues with changing gears in the ecu. not really wanting to tear car apart til i know i can do the full swap myself.

The SVX speed sensor will attach to the front diff in place of the speed cable. No other changes are needed.

all subey rear diffs ive seen so far have the gear ratio clearly marked on them (usually covered in crud...wiping it clean will reveal a sticker on the diff cover indicating ratio and if it is a limited slip unit or not...)

my 4.44 4eat/rear diff came from a legacy gt (ummmmm 97 i think...i know the 98-up have a different filter....(externally mounted) and wont work easily or even at all.....?)

the swap is dead simple and trust me a LOT of fun to drive when completed!!!

A lot of the newer ones don't have it maked on the rear diff...

and some 98 trannys will work, I know our 98 Outback had a compatable tranny, as it did not have the external filter...
