Subaru manual trans

Which manual transmissions have a 5th gear, final drive ratio close to the SVX auto? I am looking to do the 5speed swap, but still get good gas mileage on long trips. I assume its probably going to come from an outback, but any help with model/year would be appreciated.

The closest 5MT with something close to the SVX ratio I can think of is from the 1991-1994 Turbo Legacy and 1992-1994 Regular (non-turbo) Legacy with a 3.90 final drive (later Legacies came with that final drive as well, but I don't remember which).

Surprisingly, outbacks have something much farther from the SVX's 3.545 final gear - usually 4.11 or 4.44.

Many Impreza's also came with the 3.90's as well...but yes, all Manual Outbacks have 4.11's....the 3.90 is the highest gear ratio available in a Subaru manual tranny

Also consider the JDM Forester STi 6 spd. 3.90 diffs and a much more "highway friendly" final gear.
