So my mpg took a dive.

Update @ post #17.
--
I got a new job a few months back, and I got a new (old) house to live in a little over a month ago.
These two places ar pretty close. About 4 miles apart.
I filled my first full tank after driving this route of 8 miles (or so) per day
and my mpg came out to be 14.31mpg. Yikes. It's down from an upper 18s average over roughly 8-9 mile trips.

Just thought this information might interest some who wonder when they say short distance driving drops mileage, wonder how much exactly.

On the plus side, I ran for a good 28 days (205.3 miles) or so before having to fill (14.343 gallons) and my birthday present from the gas companies today was a tank of fuel for under $40.

Oh yeah today is mai birfday.

--
Oh yeah and I have a new monit0r for my PC, Samsung Syncmaster 204bw, 20''.

Highly recommended.

Now all I need is the graphical power to make use of it.

Yeah right we got about .0001 inches of snow today and there's even less on the ground.

Winter's a little late and the ski season is going to suffer. :/

That can explain why you can get a lower mpg...and I know why I have been getting lower mpgs too, 12-14mpg.

Happy Birthday, enjoy your monitor.

Thanks thanks.

It's snowing right now. Kinda.

So it was below 30 out this morning and the ground was dry as toast.

I swear the cool dense air gave me what feels like a 30hp boost (compared to like, summer driving)

12mpg here I come.

Well if the cold did that for you ,,,,,,just think of what it would do for the car.

(From the Associated Press, 10/25/2006)
Want to spend less at the pump? Lose some weight.

That's the implication of a new study that says Americans are burning nearly 1 billion more gallons of gasoline each year than they did in 1960 because of their expanding waistlines. Simply put, more weight in the car means lower gas mileage.

Using recent gas prices of $2.20 a gallon, that translates to about $2.2 billion more spent on gas each year.

"The bottom line is that our hunger for food and our hunger for oil are not independent. There is a relationship between the two," said University of Illinois researcher Sheldon Jacobson, a study co-author.

"If a person reduces the weight in their car, either by removing excess baggage, carrying around less weight in their trunk, or yes, even losing weight, they will indeed see a drop in their fuel consumption."

The lost mileage is pretty small for any single driver. Jacobson said the typical driver _ someone who records less than 12,000 miles annually _ would use roughly 18 fewer gallons of gas over the course of a year by losing 100 pounds. At $2.20 per gallon, that would be a savings of almost $40.

I weigh less than 140, so I don't think I would benefit at all from dropping 100lbs from my waistline.

Something else to note along those lines, bigger people tend to buy bigger vehicles like trucks. If they lost some diameter they could not only drop weight but get a smaller car to putt around town in.

I go 215, so I dropped my Claret from 3580#s (Ben) to less than 3400#s
for, uh, gas mileage!
Yea, for gas mileage!

That's what I tell people when they see my passenger seat is missing.

God, my friend flipped out the other day because he wanted to go to Best Buy and he wanted me to drive like usual, but when I showed up without that seat he insisted upon taking his truck because "he didn't want to look like a retard" sitting in the back seat at 7-8pm.

I even offered to let him drive but he said no.
