JDM Engine

Hello,
I did a quick search and found no answer for my question. What are the differences between the JDM EG 33 and the US spec engine? I emailed a question to the sellers and they say the engines are interchangable. They use the same ECU and Wiring harness. Any more knowledge would be wonderfull. Thanks...

Dave

A CARB on a SVX?! That would be strange to see.

Carb AND fuel injection is something I would wish to study. I have been assuming that my JDM has none of this. But hold it while I have a look under the bonnet(hood).

Sorry to make a joke out of what is probably an unfortunate mistake and no offence intended.

All SVX engines are the same (except for the JDM twin-turbo police special )

The ECU programming is different, presumably this is to accomodate regional fuel differences. It is rumoured that the JDM cars are optimised for the 100+ octane fuel that they get in Japan. My JDM cars definitely run much better on 98-99 than the standard 95 we get here in the UK.

Engines are the same, the only differences are in the ECU. People like Silverspear have Open loop ECU's which do not function off emission standards and run on a basis of optimal performance for regions allowing it

Tom

What could that do for those of us in the US that don't have to worry about smog checks?

Very true. His SVX doesn't have any O2 sensors...

Immmmmm, interesting, wonder if ECUTune could bring out something to take advantage of that particular ECU (and it's programming).

The JDM ECU is definitely different. Note the incompatibility of LAN's chip, for example.

I do not see a big enough gain to buy and ship an ECU from the middle east. not only will sourcing one be a HUGE pain in the arse but it will cost more than it is worth. The Stage 2v5 ECUtune would probobly be more worth your while. Additionally I am not sure how well that ECU will work with the USDM wiring setup and whatnot.

Also, according to a recent or semi-recent post I read from LAN, the USDM ECU runs the EG33 quite well with the O2 sensors unplugged. If I recall what he said correctly, the ECU ignores the lack of input from the O2 sensors. Apparently the engine runs even better without them.

Are you sure about that? I mean there is no way for them to have used anything but a distributorless ignition so why change from Multiport Fuel Injection and downgrade to Carburation? Just doesn't make any sense

Yes, the Aragona cars were carbureted. You can even see it in the pictures of them. Actually 2 carburetors. I don't think he was running gasoline though.
