my unofficial 0-60 is lame

with just a stopwatch and myself i did some 0-60 runs and was getting consistantly between 8.2-8.4... thats with just gunning it.. none of that holding the brake and gas at the same time...
-my tranny was shifting pretty well
-i have removed intake resonater
-and have dayle's lightened crank pulley...
-and goodyear eagle gt-hr's...

i know the tires and intake resonator dont add much for performance but those are all the things i've done myself... so i thought i'd include them
.....i will SOON be putting intake into my fender and create an air inlet out of an old corner lense(swappable)

its a 92 ls-l... with 150k miles, am i getting 'bout what i should for 0-60s?? sure doesnt seem like it..
my 200hp saab 9k turbo would get mid 6's...

anybody with relatively stock times lemme know if i'm on track or way off...
thanks alot!

Full tank of gas? Car fully warmed up? You don't weigh 300#, do you?
-Bill
p.s. seriously, your times are a little slow...do a search of the site for what R&T said when the car first came out

Please keep in mind the "context" of the comparrison. Gear ratios and vehicle weight have plenty to do with the 0-60 speed. If you put really low gear gear ratios in your SVX, your acceleration can be transformed into a killer light-to-light racer. Dont expect any highway driving on it though.

The SVX is rather geared rather for highway cruising (and the top speed is quite nice as well). I am sure that if you changed your overall ratio to something like 4:44, you would be more impressed of the 0-60 time.

On a side note, if you plan on doing test like this and make changes to the car and compare positive or negative results.... get a accelerometer (something like a g-tech or tazzo). It takes the inacurracy out of a stop watch and speedometer test and can be done with a higher degree of saftey. It also takes the "butt dyno" out of the picture and can show even the smallest degree of improved (or lost) performance.

yep, if i had money i'd do 4.44's or 4.11... but besides money theres another issue... almost every week i drive back home 160 miles and i dont wanna be doin 5k rpms for 2 hours... i thought "mr. dyno" looked like a good deal, but the sale price is gone now... still though, in basically stock form i think i'm a little slow

I'm betting your engine is weak. I also believe I would have matched your 0-60 times when I still had the 4EAT. One ride in a 5/6MT SVX and you'd be hooked.

Have you done anything to the exhaust yet?

My accelleration was weak today and when I popped the hood a hose was unplugged.

4th unplugged hose this week. Not sure how it's happening.

Not saying that's your problem, but chances are you just aren't making as much torque as you should be.

I know at 900rpms my exhaust resonates and the car vibrates soothingly, but is not felt when a simple air hose is unplugged as there is ample power loss.

8 seconds is pretty slow, so you should go over your engine and check all the simple fixes and connections.

If you don't find anything, check your voltages, do a compression test, stuff like that.

i'll have to get some rough numbers... but not yet... and tomorrow i'm doin the ecu crush mod... that'll work just fine with stage1 right? once i'm done fixing things and can afford fun stuff...

My SVX had the ECU crush mod before I bought it. I'm running Stage 1 without issue. Stage 1 doesn't care if it's crushed or not.

4.44s give 72 MPH at 3000 RPM, just so you know, or 80 MPH gives you about 3333 RPM.
And lots of torque if you have to get away from a runaway truck!

Those numbers aren't really that far off from the 0-60 numbers published in the car magazines when the SVX was new. The best time I remember was a 7.1 from Road & Track. Automobile got 7.6, and I remember Car and Driver got an 8.2 or 8.3 from a '93. This was using sophistocated timing equipment and was probably using the technique of torquing the car against the brake.
Remember, this is a heavy, all-wheel-drive car with an automatic, a pretty high final drive ratio and not a huge amount of low-end torque. Hence the popularity of 4.44 and 5mt conversions.
