i hope you got a good discount, because in my eyes, it wouldn't really be a *new* car anymore.

i would have also wrung them out for an extended warranty and some optional equipment.
I didn't see your last comments as being negative Alan - more like good, sound advice.

I'm not a haggler once I've made my mind up to buy something. They knocked the price down to 23K (2.5K under MSRP) and included that 6 month dealer warranty. I felt satisfied with that...plus my wife was itching to finish up the negotiation/signing as she wanted to go shopping at the nearby outlet malls. I ended up going with her on a quick 30 minute shopping spree while they washed and gased up my car...

It was an eventful morning to say the least!

i'm only a haggler when it comes to cars and houses, because working a good haggle can mean saving many weeks of paychecks (and i effing hate my job! )

you most definitely should have haggled more, because even with the "2000 mile discount", you only paid $1500 less that my LGT, which came with the $1500(?) 5EAT, as well as pretty much every other option/accessory that was available for it - i think the other thing i didn't get was the factory sub. my MSRP was $28k+ !!!

Ken,

I'll be able to give you a ride. I won't be allowing anyone to drive it just yet. The clutch is new an extremely grabby. The last thing I'd want would be for my synchros to be stripped before I've had a chance to enjoy the car.

I really like the color. Only thing is that grill. They had the styling perfect last year IMO. But the spoiler and wheels are a nice touch. Perhaps there are aftermarket options for that grill?

BTW - don't get a flat...take it from me, replacing a tire like that thing has will take a big chunk out of a week's pay.

I dunno if i'd be comfortable with that many miles put on it by the dealer. I used to work for a car dealer, and i remember how we treated the cars, then got mad when everybody wanted to order their cars and we couldn't sell any off the lot. Good call on that warranty though.

Hope it treats you well.

BTW - what's special about a WRX "TR"?

I would have been really ticked off about the 2,000 miles on it too. What was that guy thinking? A car delivered for a customer and he takes it on a 2,000 mile joy ride. So much for getting a "new car". If I was in your shoes, I would have bought that one too. You waited that long for it and it is hard to say, no - I will wait for a "new one". I think you should have got a piece of that salesman's *****.

Note: ***** insert whatever part of his anatomy you want.

Looks great mate, when do we start work on it.

Chike,
Nice new ride! So, are you going to drive it to Reading?
As far as your car's pre-ownership "ride" - might I suggest that you have a little "chat" with the salesman in question and ask him to describe his trip in your car. It might just be that he drove it in a way that that is actually good for the car.

Nothing's special about it - it's just a base WRX with fewer luxury features.

No fog lights, a 1 disc cd player (instead of 6 disc), manual hvac system (instead of auto climate system), unpainted side mirrors and a smaller stereo system (lower amps and fewer speakers). Other than these superficial items, it's exactly the same.

From people who've weighed theirs, it comes in at roughly 3160lbs compared to a standard WRX that weighs 3190lbs. One guy with a WRX TR in Arizona has gone 13.8 @ 100.2mph in the 1/4 already.

Btw, TR stands for 'Tuner Ready'.

Agreed. Steel Gray is also a pretty rare color, and if I passed on that one, I would have needed to travel 150 miles to get another.

Thanks Harv. No real plans for it at this time. Want to keep it stock to compete in SCCA D-stock autox this season. Just enjoying the ride for now.

You know, if no one picked up Boxer6SVX's car, I was seriously thinking about buying it. You never know, I just might get another sometime down the road...

I'll be at Reading with my WRX TR!

The salesman said he broke it in nice an easy on his trip - never took it above 4,000rpms. From how grabby the clutch is I can tell no hard drop launches were done. As a precaution, I changed out the factory break-in oil today (put in Mobil 1 5W-30) and it came out nice and clear with no metal particles. Everything's working fine with no unusual noises other than that spooling turbo which I'm still getting used to!

DOOT!!! GO CHANGE IT AGAIN. SYNTHETIC NOT GOOD UNTIL 10k or higher (even then it isn't recommended by Subaru). In reality sythetic isn't any better for the car at all then a good grade tradional oil except for consistant short driving where the car rarely warms up and for extended service period (which in reality aren't always the best as other little things tend to get missed by the lazy who buy and drive only).

I didn't go to syn until the 3rd oil change at 7000 miles on the wifes (which was 1.5 years into it).

The owner's manual says synthetic is just fine and the majority of people on NASIOC have switched to synthetic by their 1st or 2nd oil change. I did it on my first since the car already has 2,000+ miles.

As she was alread broken-in, I'm looking forward to taking her up to higher and higher revs over the next 2 weeks. Took her up to 5,000rpms this evening in 1st, 2nd and 3rd and she feels amazing!!!!

p.s. Chike, I'm with Ben on the oil issue. I was just reading an article on problems that several of the major cam manufacturers are having because of the reduced level of zinc that is in motor oil now (the lobes are wearing really, really fast). You might want to do a little research on this topic - FAST!
