I need a 4.44 Diff.

not an "svx" part but i need for my svx

my diff is causing alot of vibration in my car.
and the place that i took it said it would most likely be cheaper to get another diff and put it in than to have them take it apart and fix whatever internal is causing the problem

can anyone help me or is there somewhere else i should look?
(is there a legacy forum?)

thanks

Jaya,
Is it the front diff, or rear diff?

Might try here:

it's the rear.

did that one come out of an outback?
or a legacy gt?

or would it make any difference when replacing it?

thanks

It came out of a 97 Outback, that only had 20k on it.. I can't believe it's bad with such low miles on it..

You'll have to swap in the ring and pinion into that rear end to keep the LSD and be able to use the rear SVX axles... (or swap th eLSD carrier into the new rear end, you need to have someone swap the gears that has the know-how to set the back-lash on the gears...

well let me explain the problem.

i'm having massive vibration coming from the rear diff particularly at higher speeds(noticeable at 50+ unbearable at 60+) the place that is looking at it said it could be the bearings in the diff or it could some other internal problem, but that either way it would be easier (and cheaper) to replace the diff with a used one then to tear into and replace individual parts. (this was taking under his assumption that i could find a diff for approx. 200-300 but i have yet to find one PERIOD)

so if i understand what you've said if with a new diff. they'll have to tear into to make it work with the svx?

Have you confirmed the 3 joints in the driveshaft are not causing this problem?

I have a brand new single piece driveshaft and it's confirmed that that's not the problem.

it's definately something within the diff.

I believe the bearings would be the same in the rear diff's....

But I would guess if it's anything it is the ring and pinion that is worn out....

Before you replace the rear diff, try a two piece driveshaft!
