my friend's old 911 (no AWD, traction control...not even sure it had ABS) didn't even go too good in the rain! big wide tires and rear engine = no good in anything but dry asphalt. he had mastered the art of the slide, though.

My Matra Murena was mid-engined and rear drive.

Because the tyres were not too wide, it actually had good traction in the snow.

Weight transfer to the back under acceleration meant it dug in and moved on.

Not too smart at stopping or going round corners, though, respect was needed.

There's a guy in my town that drives a '96 Carrera 4 as his 'Winter beater'. He has a brand spankin' new '04 911 GT3 and an '02 911 Turbo for the summer months...

I'm detecting a pattern with the cars he collects.

My recommendation for the SVX still remains with 205/60-16's for winter tires. (narrower and slightly taller) 25.68" vs 24.86" stock.
