Any Cheap(er) Repairs For Leaking Rack?

OK thanks, it is useful to know. I was kinda assuming that such wear is normal, and the steering racks are routinely rebuilt to fix it.

it exhibits itself as noise/shudder if turning wheels at standstill.
Coming to think about it, it is really not common - I don't actually remember driving any other car that did it, although I've been a passenger in some older buses that did it.
