XM Radio

Does any subscribe to XM radio service? How much is it? Is it worth it? What do you like/ dislike about XM radio? Where's the best place to install the antenna on a SVX?

Those are great questions John. I am wondering about that too.

I guess I'm entitled to only one 'good' question per month!

Earl, you have a XM ready unit?

I don't think so. I have to read the book before I will know.

Their website is quite helpful but I would like to know how this service works with the SVX.

I've been an XM subscriber for over a year. I have an XM receiver in my SVX and in my house. It's worth so much more than they charge. I love the programming, and they've now gone commercial free on all their music channels. I pay $16 a month for my two radios. It's $10 for the first one and $6 for each additional radio.

i came real close to getting one, but i can't justify the $10+/month for radio when i already have more CD's than i can listen to. i need to pipe the digital music from DirecTV i already get into my computer for burninating.....

Mike where did you end up intalling the antenna on the SVX? I guess that's good to know!

A bunch of the loaners at work have them , its pretty nice, theres only a small percentage of the channels i actually listen to but its still well worth the money...however its definetly worth considering Serius as well. I was talking with some people at a local audio store, XM gave all the upper managment guys XM free for their cars, and for whatever reason...i dont recall specifics, they were extremely disappointed and all got Serius afterwards.

I've had Sirius in my SVX for over 2 years now, and I love it. Of course, the SVX is the car I take on long cross country drives so I need something other than just local radio stations, as in some areas that's just not an option. I've got the option of MP3s too, but even that gets old after a while. Plus, with satellite radio, you get news, sports, comedy, talk, and others that MP3s just don't provide.

As for the antenna, mine is installed right above the rear window in the center of the roof. It actually seems to fit the car really well.

I have mine on the hood. I've since upgraded to the new style smaller antenna, but this should give an idea.

Mike or Shane,

What antenna did each of you use for your XM? Brand or model number would be helpful!

Thanks!

I have an Apline 9820XM and was unsure of what kind of antenna would be proper for this unit.

The one shown on my car in that pic is one that came in the DELPHI SkyFi car kit.

The one shown here is the newest and smallest design. This is also put out by DELPHI and it comes with the Roady. I'm using this one currently, and it is also magnetic mount.

Here is a Terk model I used on my RX. It used sticky foam tape to mount it. I didnt like this because when I sold the car I had to leave the antenna on it.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the info Mike!

I think I'm going w/ the Terk XM-3 due to it's low profile look. I'm sure I'll post again in here once I go through the install process.
