What would you compare it to?

I was doing some thinking(avoiding studying for Discrete Statistics) and i was trying to think if i was to compare the SVX to one car what would it be? I mean thinking luxury sports coups, the G35 comes to mind, and maybe the SC3/400. What do you all think?

SC300, 3KGT etc would be it. It was made to compete with them I believe.

I'd compare it more to the 3000GT SL, from a performance standpoint if nothing else. The VR-4 is significantly more powerful, and even today, more expensive (I priced them when I was looking for a more sporty replacement for my Legacy, and they were about 4 times more expensive, one reason I ended up with the SVX instead). The VR-4 also is more sport oriented than it is luxury or GT oriented, whereas the SVX is a more luxury-sports car.

Personally I have an on-going competition on this with my friend's DSM (1992 Eagle Talon TSi AWD). I would say these are more comparable to the SVX than the 3kGT, but again, they are more sport-oriented. He hasn't done any real performance work to his car yet, so for the moment, I think we're evenly matched, but he will have an easy time beating me in that area after he starts buying those upgrades. However, the SVX is much more comfortable to ride in, and shifts better than he does (his is a manual, with bad synchros on first gear, not that that's the only reason the shifts are rough ). I have difficulty fitting comfortably into the passenger seat in his car, particuarly if I have bags for school or work with me.

I'd also probably toss the Toyota Celica All-Trac Turbo, Mitsubishi Galant VR-4, BMW 325iX (though production ended of that in 1991), the remaining DSMs (Mitsubishi Eclipse, Plymouth Laser), and others I can't think of at the moment into comparison with the SVX.

Comparable car

The most comparable car to the SVX in overall feel IMHO is the 928 Porsche with the automatic. The Porsche is faster, the Subaru is quieter and better handling and has a little more rear seat room, but if you drive both of them, they're very, very similar.

re: What would you compare it to?

You pose a very interesting question. My thoughts lead me to the 1989 AUDI Quattro Coupe.

The AUDI has very simmular specifications. It produced 220 HP from a front positioned dual overhead cam engine; featured All Wheel Drive; used MacPherson Strut suspension with coil springs; 4 wheel disc brakes w/ ABS; and F & R sway bars.

Both vehicles featured 4 passenger seating in 2+2 configuration, in a "fastback" sloping rear roof line body shape. Also...; close examination of the two vehicles reveals that although their roof lines slope to the rear; neither car has a rear "hatch" opening...; instead opting for conventional trunk lids. I suspect this was chosen to increase the body stiffness; since AWD can generate huge twisting forces on an automobile's body. You'll also note that the fuel filler doors are placed in the same position. Lastly...; the "art" of the two vehicles bodies shows that they both feature smooth squared-off front and rear "fender blisters".

In closing...; if you are so inclined to compare our wonderful SVX's to a two wheel drive sport coupe...; I suggest you might want to take a look at the 1989 to 1992 BMW 850 Coupe.

Only good comparison

Most of the comparisons you guys are taking about give an advantage to one side or the other. The VR-4 is all-wheel drive, but has turbos. The talons have a major weight advantage. The only good comparison would be between a 94 SVX L and a 3000GT SL. both are FWD and can be gotten with the automatic trans. The 3000GT may be a little lighter, but I think they're fairly close. I got a 94 L anyone got an SL auto?

I DIDN'T SAY IT, MIKE!

i think the 928 is in a different league as far as handling, but they are similar. the SVX is pretty unique with its blend of AWD, luxury and performance. i'm thinking the new Volvo S60R might be a more suitable comparison.
