Programming Security FOB Question

I hate to be another person asking this question, but it seems that the problem I am having is slightly different than what I have found already posted in the forums.

I bought a replacement security fob from my local dealer. I put fresh batteries in it.

I followed the directions step-by-step already posted in the forum. I can get my car into programming mode easily. It is a '92, so I hear clicking from the glove box and my parking lights flash.

I keep pushing the button on the remote, but get no response from the car. (I think it is supposed to beep the horn every time the remote button is pushed) Am I doing something wrong? Is there some step I have missed?

I don't think there is a problem with the security module itself, because it goes into program mode every time. Any help you guys can offer is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

it sounds to me like a battery problem. are your fresh battteries, really "fresh"? or do you have the correct battery or batteries (i read that you can use the series of small batteries or the single battery replacement)? or are the batteries installed correctly? also, something may have become disconnected when you put the new battery in? i'd start by checking these things.

the batteries were new out of the package. However, I might try getting the single battery replacement since i have like 8 small batteries in there now. I will swing by radio shack tonight and try that out.

also, there is a black ground? wire that seems to run under the battery compartment and attach to a metal strip. Is that strip supposed to be secured in the compartment where the keychain ring attaches to? (I hope you know what I'm talking about)

thanks!

it's been awhile since i've had to replace a battery. i don't remember there being a black wire, ground or otherwise. unfortunately i am at work now and i don't have the time to take my remote apart. i may have a chance to do it this evening unless someone else has an answer for you.

The wire you're talking about runs from the circuit board and should be soldered to the metal strip, that touches the ring holder. The ring holder and ring, are actually what act as the transmitter for the fob. That's why they suggest that when you press the button on the fob, you do so with the key dangling toward the ground.

The battery you'll need is a GP27A or equivalent. Two per pack at Radio Shack for about two bucks.

I have two that are in pieces on my work bench in my garage. I'm far too familiar with their workings.

jim:

i have 5 remotes for 2 SVXs. i'd be willing to sell one to someone who needs one. i have one that looks like hell, but works and another one that i purchased from the dealer that has never been used. send me a private message to let me know what you were looking to pay for one. i also have programming instructions, if you need them.
